Got the trail pic of a tall ten at my water hole today at 10:45 am. hunted the stand tonight and he came by following a doe. 30 yard shot a little too far forward hit the shoulder.I backed out and went and looked at eight found a few drops of blood went 20 yards and found the arrow. It went in 6″ and broke off. We backed out and are going to give him some time the rain might kill me!!!!!!!!!! Shooting 70lbs 2 blade rage what do you guys think. I will post a pic if I can

Tim, I would keep a close eye on the weather and check the radar if you must sleep. Be ready to head out at the drop of a hat if it starts raining. Best of luck! I have a feeling he is down and you did the absolute correct thing be backing out,

It will definitely be a long night for you, probably not much sleep if at all. Can you tease us with the trail cam pic until we can see the real thing?

If you weren’t too high 6 inches should be enough and I agree it probably made a mess of his insides. You won’t have much blood til his cavity fills up. I had one similar that developed a fat plug so don’t give up on this one. If you lose blood start your grids right away. If it wasn’t too high I would think you should find him. Good luck!October 25, 2009 at 12:23 pm #64766Kudos to you Tim for doing the right thing. Check out my post about some other guys that didn’t do the right thing last night.
Even if the rain washes all the blood off, you’re still 2-steps ahead as it sounds from the hit like you’ve got a dead-deer walking. Without pushing him, I’m thinking and hoping I’ll be seeing pictures of him soon.
Congrats for doing the tough-thing, I’m thinking you’ll be rewarded.!

October 25, 2009 at 2:09 pm #64768Got on a good blood trail last night you could darn near run following the sign. Then it started raining and the blood slowed. We lost his trail and called it a night. Headed back out this A.M.
October 25, 2009 at 2:51 pm #64770That’s a darn nice looking deer. I use the two blade rage heads and if your certain you got it in there 6″, it’s working and I think by your backing out and not pushing him, you’ll find him. I think the one thing besides this rain that might work against you is that he may want to stay with that doe
We’ll stay tuned….
October 25, 2009 at 8:23 pm #64781No sign of him at all. Some of the heavy blood from last night was still visible after the rain but I still could not find any more from the point we lost it. Going to be spending alot of time walking the woods this week!

I’m thinking you only got one lung. He was most likely dead on his feet. Take the line he was heading, use a GPS with the trail feature on, and start gridding. If you got a Rage into one lung he could go a half mile, but he will die walking. Good Luck
October 27, 2009 at 3:06 am #64946I agree, if you got a Rage blade even in one lung, he’ll die. And a dead deer tries to walk a straight line. Pick up the trail and shoot an line, and grid it out. Yes, 1/4 to 1/2 mile depending on the terrain. Good luck….
