I got the ball rolling with this doe on Monday night.

Sitting in a homemade stand watching over a cut corn field that has been my nemesis the last 2 weeks hoping the deer would come out where they “should”. Looked at the phone, 5:45 still lots of time before I think I’ll see anything, bow hanging on a broken tree branch, my butt on a five gallon pail…

North wind howling pretty good, back to the wind and the field. Then a crunch, crunch, crunch… what the he!!, oh oh, mom and yearling feeding on the field edge, snuck up behind me, and they aren’t 5 yards from me!!!

ok, settle down, assess the situation. They are right there!!! But there is a big leafy tree between me and them hanging down to the field. Slowly stand up, do the penguin walk to turn and get in position. Making dang sure to crouch into the tree limb that splits right at waist level. ok so far so good, didn’t get busted.

Slowly turn and grab the bow, get clipped on… oh crap little one is now right below me but mom is quartering a way from me!! Perfect. Get the routine going. Draw, hold, get breathing under control, double check pin placement and…… RELEASE! Bam, good shot!!

3 blade Rage did its job. She takes off I can see her pumping nicely, shot placement is good, not great, pretty sure it will do the trick. She does a 360 in the field and down she goes

Little one runs over there and up she comes!! You little sob! Mom runs out the corner of the field, little one runs back past me. Crap, hoping this was the first deer I would see fall and stay down…..

Grabbed the phone, called the boys, they’ll be out in 30 minutes. Sat back down and let the adrenaline settle back down. After 15ish minutes I climbed down, went to the truck and waited. The boys (sauger/z) show up, go through the play by play, show them where I was, shot angle and started looking for the arrow.

Arrow was dark red and bright red, liver and lung. Blood was everywhere in the cut corn, easy to track. She crossed the road at the edge of the field…. They always cross that dang road!!!! Still easy tracking, found her about 40 yards in.

Loaded and back to the bat cave to process. 35 minutes with 4 guys (bobo/z/sauger/wilson), and I didn’t do much…..

Reward, Wednesday night back straps and tendies on the grill with Peta, onions, green peppers, mushrooms and this garlic sauce that is to die for, but as I’m typing this is still with me… wonder how many pieces of gum i’ll go through today…

A big thank you to the boys, hunting is much more fun when you have a group that pulls together to enjoy the hunt, and all the work that comes after!!!

Team #1 is on the board baby!!!
