i am going to hunt the next few days( wednesday thru sunday) and wondering what should i use? one of my moms work partners shot a nice 8 pointer while attacking his decoy and i was wondering is it the pre rut yet? My tree stand is off three highly used trails and two really tight trails but with some huge tracks and while i was putting the stand in i found a fresh pile of sitting on the trail and it was still wet. this was on a nice cool sunny day. So i was wondering what should i bring to the stand with me? i have a rattle bag and grunt tube. Should i use it? and how aggressively and how often.

I am so pumped. saw three huge does across the field. and a bedding area. thanks much.

You could sure tickle the horns They should be sorting out dominance. Soft grunts would be ok too… I wouldn’t get too crazy with it. Good luck and report back how it went

You can try rattling some, One of my favorite times is right at day break when it’s starting to get light out, a few good rattles and then get ready.

Probably one of the most important comments I can make is make sure, you set yourself up so that your comfortable and in a position that you do not have to turn and fidget a lot if you can sit relaxed and see the area you need to without having to turn or twist you will see more deer and be able to stay out longer enjoying the hunt.

    Good luck!

yea rattle lightly when it’s just getting light enough to see your sights. there’s a long story for rattling them in too early.

Sunday night i rattled in a huge buck right before dark. It is the coolest thing. I also used a Buck Growler call from M.A.D calls. This combo seemed to do the trick. That buck was running through the trees as soon as I put the horns down. He came within 7 yards of my stand I just couldnt get a clean shot at him. Will have to get him next time. Make sure not to rattle to hard yet.

I love the sound of the Growl! I got to hear it last year as a buck was chasing a doe at full speed Ive never had luck w/ rattling but i would definitely bring a bag or horns. I wouldn’t growl if you have the call unless you see a buck in the distance just to see his reaction Other than that, i would grunt a few times each sit
