Sometimes and old-school method can be awful deadly…..

You said it…I caught my very first muskie last fall trolling the ol’ Red and White Daredevle. I was surprised, to say the least, but I’m thinking the old school baits probably do work pretty well, considering the fact that to most of these fish, they’re brand new! After that muskie saw bucktails all summer, that Daredevle probably looked pretty good…

    One: Muskies don’t bite daredevels
two: red/white is such an old color that every fish has seen it and won’t bite it any more.

I like the Burt, Suick, Topraider, Thunderhead, DDD. I will be doing a ton more crankbait fishing this season. I worry less about color, but I favor more natural colors.

Are you kidding me man? I guess I must have caught a muskie on crack then, because it HAMMERED a red and white Daredevle. Ok, it was a tiger, but gimme a break. The other side of that spoon is red and white baby!

Sarcasm, I believe was his intention. It never reads quite well on the net.

Arrrrgggghhh…well on that note, is there anyone here who has ever caught muskies on spoons regularly? I wasn’t targeting muskies when I caught the one in the pic, but I thought it was interesting, since all anyone talks about for muskies are bucktails, Bulldawgs and whatnot. Maybe this question should be a seperate thread…I also had 4 or 5 follows last summer on a Perch colored Salmo Fatso, no takers though.

Thank god they haven’t seen a black and silver bucktail.

Spoons do well for muskies in some situations, like speed trolling the sand, ripping through thick weed edges, jigging fall fatties. Overall, spoons are outperformed by other baits for muskies. Pike is another story.

This may sound funny, but my favorite is something absolutely different than what everyone else is throwing. I think some lakes get so educated, that they need something never seen before.

    Stand-by by month
May into june = creek chubs walleye colored along weeds & Jackpots

June / July = Big weighted buchtails with curl tail trailer and Deep Deep running baits (usually find more fish in the 20-40 fow.

Aug / Sept – walleye patterns baits at night

Oct (after cool down) to freeze up or season closer Burmex (sp??) suix

They move down here with it snowing but don’t move much at all if the winds blowing. If you did arrow a deer it would be easier to follow after it quits.

Been snowing most of the night here in western Wis. I love hunting in the snow if the wind is not blowin much. Looks like 90% here until late afternoon. That could be perfect for movement. May have to skip out on some committments and get in the woods later .

By the way- my wife wants to know where the guy lives that posted the link to Midwest Whitetails? She eaid she’s going to hunt you down and burn all your archery equipment . No seriously, what a great site- I think I’ve watched almost every back issue. Wish I had the time to get that involved.

I’ve hunted in higher winds and heavy snow and have seen deer in open fields grazing. Get out whenever you can.
