Great!
I anticipate making the final details public within the next couple of weeks….just waiting for our permit to be approved.
I will say this….the WWWAA’s first tournament will be a top shelf event. A successful Wissota tournament will springboard us into a full circuit across western Wisconsin in 2009. I hope that many “underrepresented” walleye anglers in western WI (underrepresented because the major circuits ignore us) consider joining us on Wissota in June, and helping us grow into a circuit that we can all enjoy and be proud of!
Hey Woody….were you at the Menomonie show yesterday? I had to leave before lunch, but I sure enjoyed myself while I was there!
jhalfenPosts: 4179February 4, 2008 at 8:28 pm #651470I’ve had a number of PM replies, and I thank everyone who has done so.
I put up a quick, temporary website this afternoon for the event. All of the missing details will be filled in as soon as the permit is issued. Entry forms and event rules will also be available on that site. We will be partnering with the Chippewa Falls Chamber of Commerce to secure discounted lodging for guys who are travling from outside of the immediate area.
Here is the temporary tournament website: 2008 Lake Wissota Open.
If anyone has any additional questions, feel free to PM me or drop me an e-mail at: [email protected]

This information remains TENTATIVE.
I hope to have the permit inhand shortly, and as soon as I do, I’ll post a full set of information, rules, and a link to an entry form.
TENTATIVE date: Saturday, June 21.
TENTATIVE entry fee: $220
With a full field of 40 boats, 1st place will pay $2000. We will pay 80% of entry fees back to the top 20% of the field.
We will also have a big walleye category (100% payback), and a special cash prize for the top family team (parent/child, grandparent/grandchild, husband/wife, siblings).

The Western Wisconsin Walleye Anglers Association will host our first tournament, the 2008 Lake Wissota Open, in late June.
This will be a 2-man team event with a 4-fish bag.
so this is 4-fish total for two anglers, right? With the slot on Wissota, that would mean two fish over 18″ and two fish as close to 14″ as possible? that’s an interesting scenario that would make the field quite even – really boils down to the two big fish…
jhalfenPosts: 4179February 8, 2008 at 6:04 pm #653287That’s right….4 fish bag, NO CULL, with up to two over 18″ and the rest under 14″. No possession between 14 and 18″.
We are asking for a 5-fish boat possession, so that when the 5th fish is put in the well (again, NO CULL) the boat is done fishing for the day. Teams would weigh their best 4 fish from that set of 5 in possession.
jhalfenPosts: 4179February 8, 2008 at 6:20 pm #653294It will be a battle of the overs, that’s for sure! It will be nothing to go out and find 4 fish, the winners will have to go find the right 2 overs to cash the big check.
February 9, 2008 at 2:29 am #653446Is this going to be an all day event, and is there going to be a penalty for dead fish?

Can I sign up now? This looks like a lot of fun.
Itching to be boat #1, Mark?
As soon as I receive the permit, an entry form and complete rules will be available here and on my website, http://www.jasonhalfenoutdoors.com .

Oh man thats the same date at the POC event on Pool 4
Yep, a small number of people will have to make a tough decision. I think that they payout structure that we’ll have (including $2000 for first with a full 40-boat field) will help make our event attractive to those guys who are on the fence.
It is our association’s goal to provide quality opportunities like this to anglers from ALL over western WI, not just the pool 4 devotees.
jhalfenPosts: 4179February 22, 2008 at 2:54 pm #657743Permit application is submitted. Should have the definitive word any day now

jhalfenPosts: 4179February 23, 2008 at 1:00 am #657985The permit is approved. Download your entry form and get ‘er submitted. The race is on for boat #1!
jb157bPosts: 27February 23, 2008 at 4:46 am #658046It is going to be a long wait till that day. Great job Jason for your work. It nice to have something local.
April 23, 2008 at 7:08 pm #677859Hey Jason,
I hear rumor that the entry fee will be reduced?! is that true?
For me, a fee of $220 is a bit high for a weekend angler like myself… also, considering the limits and restrictions on Wissota, this really boils down to a ‘two biggest fish’ (one per angler) contest. Granted, you’ll need a full limit in order to place, but the separation between the top and next few places will come down to the ‘over 18ers’ in the livewell.
I’d be much more apt to sign-up for the tourney if it was priced more like a ‘big fish’ contest – say $50-$60 per angler???

October 5, 2009 at 8:17 pm #200646Well the title says it all!!!! What a difficult tracking job though. If it wasnt for my half bloodhound hunting buddy bob I would not have found him! We trail him for three hundred yards half of which was on our hands and knees finding pindrops! I had hit both lungs so the shot was as good as i thought but entry was high and blood was all pooled up inside. He made it to a big field and we lost the blood so I began to moop around the opposite side of field in the woods hoping to stumble upon him while bob stayed around last blood nose to the ground. An hour later I walked back to bob and he was talking about doubling back and being a smart buck and how I made a good shot….hmmmm well he had tracked back the way we came a ways and found the buck which had doubled back into some thick shrubs and expired there. Three and a half hours later my dreams came true!!!! 128 ten point with ok mass and 18 3/4 inside spread.!!!! Oh and Bob has passed this buck three seperate times so I could shoot him and have my personal best. What a friend!
