September 30, 2009 at 11:33 pm #60810Things look good all over this area, deer are moving everywhere, its dead calm here right now and a good night. The only problem is there’s fewer big boys and you gotta spend time in the woods to be there at the right time, but that’s hunting. I think this is going to be a good year.
October 1, 2009 at 12:16 am #60812Good Luck mossydan You need to shoot the Deer I will call “Sabre” to see what that bone is out the front of his rack
October 1, 2009 at 12:17 am #60813I will be down in 2 weeks , we have some good ones on trail camera and can’t wait Good luck and hope you a big boy !
October 1, 2009 at 12:51 am #60816Thanks Glenn,,, I’ve been keeping in contact with TonyP and we might get together for a few hunts, he says he needs a camera guy and hes working in Waterloo 50 miles north of me so hes closer then Allamakee county where hes from. So we might spend a few days hunting together. That the weirdest looking spike I’ve ever seen, I won’t shoot him but I do want to see him walking around, hes so odd I wonder if he’s got any girlfriends during rut, man, their probably thinking about the bones at the other end anyway lol, another one offtrack!
My daughters boyfriend has been walking a timber here on the edge of town and he told me the other night that there’s 5 telephone poles in a row bordering this timber that the bucks have been rubbing, he didn’t say if they were fresh rubs, probably aren’t yet and are from last year. I told him to get some pictures so I can post them, he said he will. They are starting to rub willows a couple days ago where my cams at, I haven’t seen any young trees along the road that their rubbing yet. You can usually drive along alot of roads here and look at the rubs on young trees from your car to see what stage their in.
George just called me and said there’s a pretty nice 10 out past the ears and a nice 8 or 9 with him at his feeder right now. I checked my SD card tonight and had just doe pictures on it but that’s a good sign too me meaning that their walking in all directions and not just coming to the apples I put down, that means the bigger guys might be doing the same too.
October 1, 2009 at 12:56 am #60817Sounds like a nice plan… Tony is a great guy. I met him years ago, up at the cabin, when he was fishing with Derek on the opener You’ll have fun Yeah, Sabre is definitely one of a kind… wonder if a deer like that, will grow something like that every year… or if its a 1 year phenomenon ??? Well, either way, you can always look for his sheds next Spring Let’s see them telephone poles… that’s gotta be a BIGBOY
October 1, 2009 at 1:00 am #60819Good Luck Gman, what town are you by just curious, is this your first time here. I’m just curious as to let you know if I’ve heard it’s a good area or not. Farm or public land? Did you buy any culling tags.
October 1, 2009 at 1:14 am #60820I’m anxious too Glenn but I’ve seen it before too myself. Last year where I hunted 90 miles north of here there was a buck or two that was standing on its hind legs and wrapping his rack into 1″ dia. limbs and breaking them probably 9′ off the ground, that’s a big buck. I’ve seen that before too. I hunted a small farm about 10 years ago with my brother Scott and we ran across a 4″ in Dia. cedar tree that this buck had pushed over and some of the roots were out of the ground, he pushed this tree over. The limbs up this trunk were completely peeled off all the way around.

I will be hunting the Decorah area. I have 3 farms that I can hunt . We can only shoot 1 buck and 1 doe .. It’s been 3 years since I got a bow tag so I’m a tad wild
October 1, 2009 at 11:27 am #60864you don’t want to hunt decorah, they only have small residentual deer up there good luck, you can probably drag out two deer at once
October 1, 2009 at 12:06 pm #60884Good Luck IOWA BOYS.
I know a few MN boys will start coming down there!
October 1, 2009 at 12:11 pm #60889heres a few photos of bucks that are on the fence, let them go and they will grow. They will be a on stand decision
October 1, 2009 at 12:13 pm #60891Thats a good area Gman, its one of the better areas, Even the public land is good in that area. Have you been seeing a couple nice ones on your cam, I know they rub telephone poles there too. Good luck!
