Just got back from Wi after a good opening weekend hunt. A buddy of mine and I hunt about 270 acres in West central WI. It was VERY warm and no wind. I saw several 2.5 year old bucks and many does and fawns but no shooters. My buddy saw about a 150 class 10 point opening morning and had it at 30 yards but never had a clear shot. The best part of the trip is we had a huge black bear with 2 cubs visit each of us…the locals said they havnt seen bear in this area in years…I was able to get some good video using my new camera and arm of some great deer just no shooters. I almost wore a hard had because the acorns are everywhere and dropping like crazy…I wouldnt want to be in the woods when some wind comes. The guy on the neighboring property did get a sow 17 pointer last night from a ground blind talk about getting the blood bumping…Ill have to try to post that pic, I got it on my camera phone…how was everyone elses opener?…Jay

I hunt in southern WI and with the warm weather I decided to come home early and not hunt tonight as well. Deer were moving very early both days and not under my stand? For some reason they were heading to the big hill instead of the apple orchard I am hunting, must be the acorns?? Sat. night saw a few does 1 smaller buck and 1 decent 8 point w/ 17″ spread all on the same trail out of range (and on the neighbors land, I may have to call her to see if I can put a stand over there also). I was giving the dogs a bath Sat. since it was nice and warm and when I got done I was tossing the dummy for them in the yard to let them dry off. It was around 80 degrees out and when I looked back by my stand there was deer standing under it in the sun. They use the other trail all morning and a couple hours after I leave they are standing under my tree. The deer stared at me and the dogs for a while and finally walked towards the orchard (must like the juicy apples when it gets warm out). I put the dogs in the house and went out to do some other stuff and there was another deer under my stand, I am assuming it was the same one but why couldn’t it have been there when I was in the stand? Didn’t it know it was supposed to lay somewhere cool during the middle of the day? Try again next weekend.
