Well, visual sightings are down for me the last couple weeks. Lots of reasons why.

    – Acorns falling like mad, my yard has millions of ball bearings thrown over it. I think this is the main reason.

    – Buck groups starting to break up just a bit. Its common to still see a couple together but not the big groups of 5+ anymore.

    – Beans are getting hard, they tend to abandon them until cold/cold weather hits now.

    – Corn is getting tasty!

What do you guys think? I am targeting the white oaks come opener. Here in southeast MN we are having a bumper crop of acorns which is great for the deer. The bucks will fatten up good before the rigors of the rut starts.

Good luck to all the upcoming weeks!

I guess I have to disagree with you guys. I have had great deer activity the last two weeks and it has been staying consistent. Now the tactics I was using three weeks ago are not working and I actually lost some deer but a closer look at what is going on with the changing food and the patterns I relocated my cameras and everything seems to be looking good. I have some great deer moving during light and all my 2 1/2 and younger bucks are still cruising at all times as they have been. Now, if I were to watch a soy bean field or one one of the alfalfa fields I would see something different as I did a few days ago. I did see one of my best bachelor groups still out there at roughly the same time but a lot of the younger bucks came out later and didnt stay long. I did see more does. What the bucks in my area seems to be after is apples and acorns. The cams I am running now are targeting routes to those areas and they are plenty busy

Exactly my thoughts, not a disagreement at all. The deer are still thier just different patterns emerging. Same things happen every year, less dramatic when the acorns aren’t thick like this year for my area. For this area, theres no doubt what they would like to eat when its available, white oak acorns!

Drove through the Buffalo County area where my lease is and saw 3 sets of bucks sparring with one another. Two of these fights were not gentle either. I also saw multiple rubs while checking trail cameras. One was on a hard maple about 10 inches in diameter. The beans are starting to turn yellow so they are avoiding them. Most of the deer we saw were in lush hay fields.

Does and fawns, Does and fawns, and more does and fawns…. Not a set of nutz yet, just moved the cameras again, one back to the food plot and the other to a main trail to a bedding area. Hopefully I get to see some nutz soon!!!

    Hey Guys,
Well in my area I’ve been seeing a few deer. They’re still hitting the beans that are starting to turn and some
alfalfa fields are starting to get hit. I went out to
check my trail camera and nothing but does. Also the acorns
are starting to drop and another crop that I expect too start getting hot are the sugar beets. About a week too go
and the bow season will be here in Minnesota.
