so here it goes. i am hunting in rushford mn. west of Winona and i was looking at the dnr rifle map last night and the area i will be hunting in is a lottery area? what does that mean? I understand that i can get the either sex tag for archery and rifle but how do i go about getting the antler less tags? Also i read that you can get a farmers permit or something like that if you hunt on farm land where you can get an antler less deer tag? i am really just looking for some one that can clear up what the lottery thing is and the farm land tag is. i am 16 and really haven’t hunted one a piece of land by my self and only hunted the northern part of the state so i would really appreciate it if some one could clarify these areas. i will be hunting bow and rifle(shotgun) seasons. so i need so help. i am putting up two stands next Tuesday and will show the pics of this 500 piece of land hopefully with some deer in them.

    thanks a bunch

What is the area number ??? I think I know what you are asking, but not sure ???? This is shotgun territory… if your in 345, season A or B, this is Managed. 346,348 and 349 are intensive harvest. Which area are you hunting in ??? Rushford is pretty much bordering all 4 !!!

If you are hunting 346, the A season would be Nov 7-15. You have to choose, A or B. B starts a week after A closes, starts the 21st. There are also special buck regs for the later season. For the A season, you can shoot 1 buck or doe and up to 4 bonus does, with tags that are 1/2 price. If you are planning on hunting other areas, then the rules of that areas designation kick in. Nobody can take more than 5 deer total, and nobody can take more than 1 deer in a managed area or lottery area. The difference is, in a managed area, you can shoot 1 of either sex, in a lottery area, it has to be a buck, unless you are successful in the lottery, which you apply for, by area. Hope this helps. Any more questions, let me know

ya i understand i will hunt the a season. but what are the rules with archery season? do you still have the 1 either sex tag and 4 antler less? i know 5 is the limit. And that would be the combination of other seasons correct?

    It’s pretty black and white.

You can shoot either a buck or doe w/ your regular archery tag or gun tag and up to 4 more (non) antlerless deer w/ each intensive harvest tag “which my understanding is called a Management Tag”.

The combo for all seasons (archery and any firearm) cannot exceed 5 deer and only 1 of the 5 can be a buck. I’m not sure if there are any antler restrictions in that area but in order for a buck to be considered legal in most parts of the state, the buck must have at least 1 point/antler which is equal or greater then 3″.

    One question for you.

Do you honestly need or want to shoot 5 deer? I don’t have an issue w/ it at all and think everyone has the right to hunt the way they want as long as it’s legal. So i am glad to see that you are asking the right questions before- hand. Just curious

I hope this cleared it up some for you

Well no i was just curious. due to the fact that no one has ever hunted her property. I would like to get a doe for bow and another for rifle and then hoping during those sits i can see a nice lookin buck. So i am just getting all the gray spots cleared up so i know thats all.

Derrick, I see you mentioning rifle, that area is shotgun only…. just want to make sure, so that you are prepared with a shotgun
