Anybody out there ever hunt NW Missouri? I am kicking around the idea, over the counter it’s $225.00 for 2 deer and 2 turkeys via stick and string. Cheap for a non-res hunt. Talked to a guy who said pressure is minimal and there are alot of state land plots to hunt and camp at. 5.5 hr drive from the TC. Going to head down and do some scoutin soon…

No but you always hear about Missou being a little bit of a sleeper state. $225 for all those tags is a great deal. As a general rule the further South you go the game laws are a little bit more liberal and usually cheaper.

Good luck and keep us updated on how you do and what you find out.

NW MO is my 2nd home. lol!!!
Great hunting for whitetails all across Northern MO. And you are correct, many acres of public hunting that doesn’t get touched much during archery season. Tags use to be $175, they went up this year. Let me know if you have any other questions.

What cities or towns will you be close to? Just North of the Kansas City area is my old stomping grounds.

My oldest son just moved to Kirksville, MO. While I was there helping him move in, we stopped at Walmart to get fishing licenses. The mounted deer heads they have in their sporting goods department just about gave me a heart attack. It looks like northern Missouri is as good as southern Iowa, but half the price and its over the counter.

I noticed there is a ton of public land down there. Big tracts (5000-10,000 acres) of public land. The principal at the school he teaches at claims archery and muzzle loader seasons are very lightly hunted.

I may go down in December for their blackpowder season if Andrew can get us onto a farm or two.

Missouri is also incredibly progressive in terms of wildlife management, food plots, and habitat for their public land. In other words, it’s not your average ripped up public ground.

West of Bethany, I agree with the third of the price of Iowa comment! Cant wait, looking at the ariels of the target area its looks like alot of little open areas and patches of timber. Should be a fun hunt. Thanks for the info, now I am really fired up!

I’ve turkey hunted the Grand Trace(spelling) which is west of Bethany. Killed turkey’s and seen a ton of deer on it. Also bowhunted a couple properties west of Bethany. Most of the people are willing to let you bowhunt. Just knock on some doors.

I did a bowhunt between Bethany and Trenton last year and it was great! There are alot of deer, good age on the herd and almost zero bowhunting pressure. I was there the first week in Nov. and we were able to rattle in bucks almost every sitting! I dont rattle very often but they said to give it a try, it was crazy! Deer on a string

RangerSki I will be going to Missouri to hunt, just dont know when. There’s thousands of acres to hunt where I’m going, Fort Lenordwood alone is 60,000 acres and alot of public land around that. If your interested send me a PM. lots of big deer and turkeys, got my camera out in Missouri as we speak
