Watering a Plot

How much water does a food plot need? This is my first year food plotting. I planted the Bio Logic full draw. We have received a small amount of rain about once a week. Should I try to water it more often? I seeded it down about a week ago and it is starting to sprout. So I think it is off to a good start. Thanks.

Jason – If it’s already starting to sprout and you just planted it a week ago then you are off to a GREAT start! From here on out is when you really need to start watching how much moisture it gets. Ideally you would like to see it getting a good amount of moisture (.25″) at least once a week. It will grow with much less moisture than that but not to the potential it could. If you really get into a long dry spell (2 weeks or more) you will seriously want to consider watering it if at all possible.

You are off to a great start so now it’s time to sit back and see what happens with the weather…pray for some good rain!! We need the moister badly here in MN!!

    welcome to ido sportland bait

if you have the tools to water i would say do it every 3 days or so if possible then when the sprouts get about 3 inches tall hit it with some 10-10-10 fertilizer either while its raining or while you are water it to prevent burning

Thanks guys. So far we have been pretty lucky up in this part of the state for moisture. I have one more plot I’d like to get seeded down but the spot is still too wet. I need a few sunny days to dry it up a little. At least enough so we can run the disk on it.
