Scott doesn’t set the hook immediately for walleyes. He gets a feel for what the fish is doing and then sets the hook. My guess is it just the cuts used in the video. I’m pretty sure we’re both doing it just about the same way.

Hi everyone, I need a suggestion on a broadhead for my girlfriend. I shoot muzzys and thats what I was thinking about setting up for her, but I was wondering what she should shoot her bow is set at 37 pounds and I was also thinking about a cut on contact type broadhead?

For cut on contact heads, I like Steelforce.

Check your state regs…here 40lbs is the minimum. That being said, 37lbs will kill a deer. It is critical that the arrow is flying perfectly straight, and has enough weight to develop minimum energy for penetration.

The formula is arrow weight(grains) X arrow velocity squared divided by 450240. She needs around 30# of arrow energy to punch into a lung. That would be a 270gr arrow traveling about 228fps.

I would also recommend a Steelforce…I would leave the bleeder blade out to enhance penetration. Have her practice as much as possible and perhaps by fall she will gain a few pounds of draw weight.

My buddies mom shoots the Wasp Boss and she shoots i believe 40 or 42 pounds. It is a fixed blade head. She’s killed a few deer with it

when my daughter started hunting 5 years ago she was pulling 33 pounds and was shooting 75 grain muzzy’s and had no problems with penetration. she took a few bucks using that set up before we upgraded her to a new bow. she still shoots the 75 grain muzzy’s.

For cut on contact broad heads, I also like (used to shoot) the Steel Force. I’m pretty sure here in MN they lowered the poundage to 30 lbs with all the advances in bow technology they have become more efficient and today @ 30 lbs creates as much Kinetic Energy as 40 lb used to. I believe the thinking was getting the youth and female hunters involved, in which I’m all for as long as 30lbs is enough.

Ya they dropped it to 30#’s last year.
For you steel force guys, How were your blood trails? My experience is they are razor sharp but have never had a GOOD bloodtrail with them.
