This might seem like somewhat of a dumb question, but during the early season (june-September), where is a good location for my trail cameras?

Depending on the area but locations where you thought about putting a stand or blind up. Travel areas that are being used now to go from one area to another will be used this fall too.

If it’s possible, scout from a distance right before dark to find out where the deer are entering the fields. Once you start patterning them, set up a camera on that trail. Try to place your camera so it does not shine into the sun. (for a night location – don’t place it facing west).

As a rule of thumb deer don’t hang much in deep woods being many many acres of deep woods, they will travel through it or occasionally bed down there to keep from being seen. Wood edges that have good cover to make them feel unseen is the best bet. This subject has been covered here on the site by the deer hunters many times and at great depth over the last 4 or 5 years, maybe someone could do a search and post some of the things that have been said.

A good area is where they travel from water to food or bedding spots and in any of those combinations and at diffrent times of the day depending on the rut. Its a big subject and has been decifered throughly here. Anybody could read it and place a camera or setup a stand or blind and they’d see deer consistently. Keep visiting here and the subject will come up and be covered again probably in July or August and from there through deer season in more depth and input from the bow hunters.
