I’m wondering if anybody had tried to use one of these to clean up and area before plowing or tilling a food plot. I have access to a tractor with a 6′ tiller but I’m afraid the weeds will constanty wrap around the tiller if I don’t some how clear most of them away. I’ve heard mixed opinions on the abilty of these walk behind cutters to actually clear weeds. I’ll be working with a an old farm feild that has not been farmed in 20+ years so right now it’s basically tall weeds and grass. Anybody have any other suggestions?

how big of an area? Maybe for the first time you should find a local farmer looking to make a buck and have him run the disk/chisel over it quick. After that your tiller should do the trick.

Depending on the size of the area, but I have used a Weed Whacker/Trimmer and Roundup to knock down an area before prepping the soil.

I have wanted to se one of these in action also CT. I was thinking of renting one to see how it works.

I rented a walk behind sickle mower last year for the weeds, with alot of thistle, that grew up around our pole barn. It worked great. It had big tires on it so it went across the ground well. Basically, engaged it in gear, then held on….

Thats what I use on mine…If its just tall grasses and no trees it will cut it up enough so it wont tangle the tiller unless its a sikle mower type and it doesnt mulch it up, you might have to go over it a couple times then. I have also used just a lawn mower if it is just grass and then its no problem tillin. I just got a brush cutter that mounts to the fourwheeler last winter and cant wait to try it out…so if you need help Randy give me a call….Jay

Thanks guys, I plan on at least an acre but probably closer to 2. Yeah I thought of the sickle type but then the problem would still exist as the weeds do need to be mulched up a bit. Jay, I’ll talk to ya on Thur about it. Thanks, Randy
