The buck found dead after shotgun deer season by quail hunters in Menard County in Illinois officially was measured at 254 1/8 inches at last weekend’s Deer & Turkey Classic. The monstrous drop-tine buck grossed 263 4/8 inches.
The rest of the story …
Petersburg hunter Mark Beck took 89 pictures and even video of the deer. Beck had been hunting the buck for 20 consecutive days at one stretch of the season. Ironically, one day Beck did not hunt he attended a wedding with his wife. That’s when his trail camera clicked a picture of the buck one hour before dark just 25 yards from one of Beck’s stands.
Beck has pictures of the buck one day before gun season when the deer looked “healthy as a horse,” he said. “He didn’t have any broken bones or look to be limping at all.”
