Wow, what a weekend at Sportsman’s Warehouse and their Big Buck Contest. Fellow IDO Staffer Brad Juaire and I were at the Coon Rapids store with Scott Mueller and his crew. The Minnesota Official Measurers (MOM) had 15 volunteers that spent the weekend at the Coon Rapids store. My hat is off to these guys for donating their time, to help out with this event. Many racks and mounts were brought in for this free annual measuring event. Sportsman’s Warehouse was giving away prizes for the largest racks in several different categories; Rife Typical and non Typical, Archery Typical and Non Typical and even Youth divisions for both. There were vendors there promoting their products and many people that liked to deer hunt and talk about deer hunting. The kids seemed to love it also as they had many cool things (horns, mounts and a few fish) to look at.
What continues to amaze me is what it really takes to have a net Booner deer. You always hear how everyone sees or shoots B&C deer, but yet there is not very many that TRULY actually get harvested. It was a great weekend with a lil’ stronger turn out on Saturday. Brad and I decided on Saturday night to return on Sunday for a few hours and worked from 10 am until about 2:30 pm. We seen quit e a few fellow IDO’ers and even met a ton of new people that we hope to see join this site. I think I can speak for Brad also in that we had a great time chatting to everyone about deer and deer hunting. For those of you guys that were there what did you think about the event? I forgot to get my camera out when some of the IDO’ers were around, but I did click a few pictures for those of you that missed it this weekend. I hope to see this event grow and we are definitely in again for next year if Scott and his great team will have us back!
Thanks again to Scott Mueller and Sportsman’s Warehouse for putting on this great event!
NOTE: The scoreboard was NOT the final results.
