Wow, what a weekend at Sportsman’s Warehouse and their Big Buck Contest. Fellow IDO Staffer Brad Juaire and I were at the Coon Rapids store with Scott Mueller and his crew. The Minnesota Official Measurers (MOM) had 15 volunteers that spent the weekend at the Coon Rapids store. My hat is off to these guys for donating their time, to help out with this event. Many racks and mounts were brought in for this free annual measuring event. Sportsman’s Warehouse was giving away prizes for the largest racks in several different categories; Rife Typical and non Typical, Archery Typical and Non Typical and even Youth divisions for both. There were vendors there promoting their products and many people that liked to deer hunt and talk about deer hunting. The kids seemed to love it also as they had many cool things (horns, mounts and a few fish) to look at.

What continues to amaze me is what it really takes to have a net Booner deer. You always hear how everyone sees or shoots B&C deer, but yet there is not very many that TRULY actually get harvested. It was a great weekend with a lil’ stronger turn out on Saturday. Brad and I decided on Saturday night to return on Sunday for a few hours and worked from 10 am until about 2:30 pm. We seen quit e a few fellow IDO’ers and even met a ton of new people that we hope to see join this site. I think I can speak for Brad also in that we had a great time chatting to everyone about deer and deer hunting. For those of you guys that were there what did you think about the event? I forgot to get my camera out when some of the IDO’ers were around, but I did click a few pictures for those of you that missed it this weekend. I hope to see this event grow and we are definitely in again for next year if Scott and his great team will have us back!

Thanks again to Scott Mueller and Sportsman’s Warehouse for putting on this great event!

NOTE: The scoreboard was NOT the final results.

Although I was unable to attend I agree this a great event. I had my biggest bowkill scored there a few years back. Looks like you guys had a nice set-up!

The Coon Rapids Sportsman’s Warehouse did an outstanding job putting this event together! It was very well organized and plenty of employees to help answer any questions. There were also numerous exhibitor displays and Sportsman’s Warehouse merchandise on sale that kept the customers interested as they waited for their racks to get scored. And…. Scott even had lunch prepared for all of the exhibitors as well!

Every customer I spoke with was sincerely impressed and grateful to be able to have their bucks scored for free! Where else can you find that? Many of them even came back again from last year even though they were not having a buck measured!

Great job Scott Mueller (and the rest of the team too)! I certainly had a great time and hope to do it again next year!

To all IDO Members: We all have choices on where we can buy our hunting and fishing gear. Please understand that Sportsman’s Warehouse is an IDO Sponsor who supports this website so we all can have a place to share information. Without sponsors like them, we would not exist.

    Excellent work you two!

It’s great to see an event like this come together, and from experience, I know these things are often time consuming to pull off. Sorry I couldn’t make it up this weekend, but next year, hopefully I’ll have something a little nicer to score!

I thought it was a great event. The IDO guys had a nice setup – heck I even got to talk planer board fishing on Mille Lacs with Brad!

Vey nice job to all involved. Personally, I have spent a lot of money in the past at Gander and Cabelas, but in the last year all of my purchases have been at Sportsman’s Warehouse. They have a great muskie selection and knowledgeable guys working the counter.

Again, good job and thanks for all the advice!

It was good to see you guys Saturday morning. Lots of nice racks at the event. That full body mount of the Wide one was very nice Brad.

Lip/Brad – Nice to meet you guys this weekend, well kinda…I never got to officially meet you Brad as a pretty good crowd appeared out of nowhere and you guys had your hands full. I had no problem checking out your deer though and they are as impressive as your stories when you shoot them. Deer are just like people. Its nice to put a face to the name and I had no problem remembering the wide ones name.

I also agree with the above statements about Sportman’s, I even mentioned to Rob that I am guilty of swinging in to the neighborhood sports store only to be dissappointed. I convinced myself on Saturday that I may as well drive the extra 6-8 miles once and get everything I need then making a half dozen 4 mile trips to get nothing. Your fishing selection is top notch and ready to go. The other place I shop is tore up and down right now to get ready for summer and it will be that long before they get it all set-up.

Also, your clearance sections where amazing…For once I am thinking about camo in February instead of August. Keep up all of the good work you guys!!!

    Thanks Guys!

Life, which one did you get? I have been eyeing up a few of them there. The 2200 is a whole $50 cheaper @ Sportsman’s Warehouse then @ Cabelas. I was looking at that one or the Hypervent. The HyperVent is also $50 Cheaper. $50 can buy quite a few cranks for this Summer/Fall.

Yep, that one is used to qaueter out Elk!. It should be big enough for whatever!

These BadLand Packs are the best pack made IMO. I just can’t choose between the Diablo, Hypervent and Ultra Day pack.

I’m leaning towards the Ultra however.

I liked the Diablo but didn’t see it. My little brother has a bag about the same size as mine but not as good. He told me he wished he’d have just bought the better one right away. So thats what I did.
