Thoughts on a Big 6

So this last season I had a large 6 walk by within 10 yards a total of 6-8 times between 3 different stands. He was nuts running around.
He was maybe 17″ wide, decent main beam length, 9″ brows, and probably 13″ 2’s. I had him by other younger bucks as well which gave an idea of his age. I figured 3.5. Maybe more but probably not. I always guessed him around 120″ or so.
My thought is he is what he is. Do you think he could sprout 3’s? There was no real evidence I could see of them coming. I’m not banking on him for next year but I haven’t seen a 6 that big in person. If he did get 3’s he’d be stud next year. Mass was good. I just think he is genetically screwed.
I also saw a little bro or son of his, like a 2.5 year old. Not good in my opinion. Thats a bad seed to be spreading in my neighborhood.

ERONN, Sounds like the same buck that my buddy passed up several times this fall also. He’d seen it the previous year & it was a 6pt then too. He said it had a huge body compared to the other bucks he was seeing. It’ll probably always be a main frame 6pt, but might start to throw some Junk as he gets older. He tried to set up his kid for a crack at it but he never got a chance, & then it disappeared. Must of went over the hill to keep you company. He also saw the smaller 6 which I’d bet is the same blood line.

Might want to clear him out. If he’s breeding, he’s spreading the seed Maybe hold out, and then plan on taking him later next season if the right one doesn’t happen

That’s such a tough call. I guess if I saw this buck during late season, I would probably consider taking him out. But who wants to waste their bow tag during primetime? No one knows for sure on whether or not he would grow G3s, but if he’s as mature as you say, I’m guessing he wouldn’t.

Maybe give him another couple years and he will still be a 6 but with huge mass making him a really big 6.

Hey, it disappeared on me too. I saw him from Nov.1 -20th or so. I think they maybe got him on the farm to the north they gun hunt hard.

Every time I saw him I thought about getting rid of him but didn’t want to use my tag or do something illegal. I was going to bring someone in to get him but never did. But like I told Beetle, I think the gunners got him as he disappeared.

Maybe its been resolved then…. Maybe his offspring is still running around then. It is sure hard to QDM, unless you have a large group doing the same thing. Ideally you bring in paying hunters, to shoot mature smallish 6’s and 8’s, like they do on TV… Also, you need the 10 foot high fence, like they do at the ranches Do you do any trail cams after the season ? I am too lazy, but it definitely is a way to get group photos of your herd Is it september yet ????
