Finding these dead bucks. First the wolf kill last w-end and now this. Today I went for a 6 hour walkabout in a good old fashion MN snow storm for the last day of ml season. After following some semi fresh tracks for a while I stopped to get my bearings. Funny how things sometimes work out because when I stopped to figure out just where I was on the property and grab a swig of h2o I looked down and saw literally a 11/2″ piece of antler sticking out of the fresh snow we got and were currently receiving. The rest of the deer was not even visible. I even stood there before digging thinking what are the chances that is antler. Well I brushed the snow away and unfortunately it was. After getting him out of his snowy grave I inspected it and concluded it was a gut shot deer, most likely from ml season as only a little bit of one of his rear quarters was eaten.
