Well after a less than stellar year so far with the bow and rifle, I had to give the muzzleloader a chance and see what I could do. It didnt take long. Went out on Friday afternoon and found a finger of hardwoods the extends into a swamp and just about connects to a rather large patch of small spruce trees. The spruce trees are a deer heaven during and just after the gun season. A lot of deer from the surrounding area get pushed into there by numerous hunters, and very very few are brave enough to walk through it.
The finger sets up a perfect travel area for them so they dont have to cross the open swamp to get to their food source. Take that and add me in the middle of it and this is what you get
Not a huge deer but for my first DAY EVER hunting with a muzzleloader, and first time shooting one with a muzzleloader I couldnt complain. Add on top of that, it was shot on very heavily pressured public land. It just goes to show you that they are out there, you just have to not only pattern the deer but also have to pattern the hunters.
This muzzleloader stuff is way to easy. I will be out the next 3 days trying to fill 2 more doe tags.
