I had a friend that invited me to go deer hunting with him this year and I even agreed to go.
Then of course he calls me today telling me he is going to hunt a different farm instead
I guess it is a good thing I didn’t buy a license and waste my money.
But, that is the way my luck goes anymore
Some day when I get big, I will find a place of my own so I will have a place to hunt deer and not have to contend with public land that is almost a suicide mission with all the lead being thrown around at will.
Good luck to those who do get out and remember “If it’s brown. it’s down”

Go knock on doors and get your own permission. Like mentioned before, if you have the chance to pick up bow hunting the amount of permission you can gain is unreal.

I am glad to see nobody took the “brown it’s down” seriosly
I used to bowhunt alot. There were a few years where I hunted eveyday ofthe early season and shot quite a few does.
Anyway, getting permission to hunt anything but coyotes in this area is next to impossible. Can it be done? I am sure it can, but I have spent a ton of time and money driving around asking for permission in past years. It is too the point where it isn’t really worth the hassle anymore.
I used to love deer hunting, still do miss it, but sometimes it is better to let things go.
Trapping was the only thing besides fishing that I really enjoyed. But with all the pressure out there now, even trapping is getting to be more of a pain in the butt than all the hard work it takes just to trap. There are just plain and simple too many people all fighting for smaller pieces of hunting land every year. Housing developments are swallowing land at an alarming rate, farms getting leased up, and landowners only allowing family on their land has squeezed a lot of people out of hunting and trapping. I am sure it is different in other areas, but not around the LaCrosse area.
At least with fishing I can always find a place to go without too much of a hassle.

Hey Mike hows it going. I read your deer hunting thread so I thought Id write. Mike have you ever thought seriously about moving down here to my area. Theres tons of good paying jobs, foods reasonable, wages are good and theres enough companies looking fo good concrete help you’d probably get hired the first place you applied. When it comes to trapping coons and rats there tons of them. I talked to a guy a couple years ago that was out in a slough along the road in a farm field. It was only 4 weeks into the season and he said he had already gotten 1,200 coons, literly. He said he works a job in the spring, summer and fall then traps all winter. At that time pelts were around $10 bucks so he had made $12,000 in that 4 weeks already. He said he makes more money trapping then he does the rest of the year. You could work concrete during the warm months then when it gets cold draw unemployment all winter and trap until your hearts content. There are tons of coons around here and a whole lot of coyotes. You wouldn’t have any problem finding a place too deer hunt, I found two new place this year just by knocking on doors and besides the ones I already had I haven’t gotten enough time to hunt them all. Consider it Mike because your money problems and a place to hunt would be over. In my area theres probably 200,000 people and the wage scale here is very good and house payments aren’t that bad, in other words there enough money to go around, pay bills and have enough left over to go do the things you want. Starting scale for concrete finishers is around $15 and my daughters boyfriends dad is the oldest concrete finisher for Skip Bernette concrete company and I think I could get you on there. All the good finishers make good money working for this company and theres a dozen more companies that pay good too. Anyway if you are going to consider it let me know and I’ll help with what you need to do and know. Why go without when you could move here and have enough money to make it and do the things you want, you can always go back and visit,,Later

    AM,
I have been following your trapping threads the last few years and it seems you have a boat and trap the river. Why not hunt some of the islands on the river? I can’t imagine they get to much hunting pressure and it should be public right?

Beleive it or not, the islands get hammered around here. People go out in boats and drive the islands every year.
I did think about doing that at one time until I seen all the orange armies pushing the islands.
