Over the past couple of weeks I have been busted by numerous deer that see me in the stand. My stand sits parallel to a trail that opens up into a bedding area in swamp. The deer never raise the white flag, but see me as they come out into the opening and dont give me the time to shoot(bow) . I know they dont scent me because im down wind and i dont know what else to do. Just looking for a little help from someone with more expirence.

Should be easy enough to get something behind your silhouette to break it up. Maybe one of those umbrella things mounted a little different? I suspect, however, if your sitting perfectly still they do not see you. If you make sudden or fast movements you’re busted.

Maybe find a bigger tree and place your stand on the other side. Use the tree to hide behind. I do that and it works.

i think you should move it no matter what now. i bet those deer check it every time now since they have busted you before

I would move in further and try to intercept them before they get to the edge.

I agree on the moving your stand post. How high is your stand and are you hunting in a hilly area where the deer are above you when they come in? You should either move to a different tree or higher up in the tree you are in if possible. If you don’t want to move you could try to brush yourself in with pine or oak branches if you can find any with the leaves still on them. Just cut some branches off and nail them to your tree. They might still look up until they get use to it but it’s about the only option you have if you want to stay put.

My stand is about 13ft off the ground. The land im hunting is fairly flat so there arnt any hills.

When in an open tree stand I’m not comfortable unless I’m at least 22′ above ground – but that’s just me! This is for many reasons – detection control, sent control, visibility in areas… However, I have pegged many does from one of our 13′ tripod stands that is positioned between and in some apple trees.

I always try to be 16 to 20 ft. It has paid off in the past.
