I was lucky enough to take this great 205 lb, 8 pointer up by Virginia, Mn on opening morning. After dressing the deer and dragging it under my stand, I continued to try to help fill out the rest of the party.
Out of nowhere this golden eagle comes spiraling out of the sky, and lands right on my deer!
After about a half a dozen ” shoo”s, and throwing some branches near the bird, he was not going anywhere, and was looking hungry.
I had to get out of my stand, and walk up within 10 feet of this thing before it took off.
He wasnt in a hurry to leave though as he stayed in my area for the rest of the day. I think he was hoping I might forget my deer, and leave it for his dinner.
Well, needless to say that didnt happen. I came out of the woods that night with a nice Buck and a story to boot.

    Sweet pic and story!
That is a young Bald Eagle. Might explain why he hung around. A Golden Eagle is a LOT larger than our baldy’s and would probably have moved your deer to a place of his choosing!

    Congrats on the nice buck!

I agree that it is probably not a Golden Eagle, but I am pretty sure that it is not a juvenile Bald either. I see the latter every weekend at our duck slew, and they are much darker and have a skinnier head. After a little research I think I have narrowed it down to the following short list, all are birds present in MN
    1. Northern Harrier
    2. Broadwinged Hawk
    3. Goshawk
whatever it was/is, it was big and cool to watch.
