I seen a buck with his nose to the ground this morning and was looking hard for any scent and wasen’t spending any time in any one spot. The same thing happened this time last year and the rut really kicked in. From now until late december is the time to bowhunt, especally from now until the end of this month. You guys think so too by what you’ve been seeing?

Not really here in Central Wisconsin! I spent lots of hours on stand Friday afternoon until Sunday! Only Sunday evening did I see any sign of rutting activity. A small 8 was on a mission and a spike was cruising as well! But that has been it for us! Maybe this week/weekend things will look up!
November 10, 2008 at 8:22 pm #42551I would agree with you Mossy. I saw 6 different bucks this weekend and the ones that weren’t right behind a doe had their nose to the ground and were on a mission to get somewhere in a big hurry. I have been out bow hunting quite a bit this year and all of the sudden this weekend they came alive. It was a fun couple of days to be in the woods.

November 10, 2008 at 8:24 pm #42552I know its hard to tell sometimes but what do you think, a week or two yet? another cold spell? They have been lighting searching here until I seen that buck this morning. I looked at a spot to cut firewood this morning too and seen 4 does, they didn’t seem to be nervous or upset like they do after being chased hard for awhile. Maybe this buck though he was just getting a head start lol. I do think were right on the begining or the main rut though, here anyway.

The corns all out where im hunting and since then theres 5 times as many hoof prints on the trails and my trail cams have been getting alot more pictures then when it was still in. From now on it should be good and only get better, time to go hunting boys!!! Its 34 degrees right now, suns out, calm wind and feels like Miami.

I ll let ya know how it goes gotta be close scrapes aren’t beiing hit on different farms but others are?
November 11, 2008 at 2:22 pm #42623Its really nice scenery over there Wild, some pretty river bottoms, I know your talking with Todd but nice to meet you too and see ya here on the site.
November 11, 2008 at 4:06 pm #42652Over the last 5 days of hunting we only saw one buck chasing and that one was able to be called off a doe. That doesn’t happen when it is really on. We saw a total of 19 buck, and all were just working the scrape lines. On the move in the AM and PM seeking out does, the does weren’t ready.
I would guess when I hunt again Thursday Evening it will be on, at least the chasing. Most of the bucks we saw were 2 1/2 and younger. We have 3 hunters and my dad and Adam each took 3 1/2 year old 11 & 8 Pointers. Both were very nice bucks. I am holding out yet, hopefully the big boys move this week
November 11, 2008 at 4:29 pm #42664At 11 AM in Pine City on Saturday I was just about to bite into a sandwich when I saw horns dancing across the sawgrass in a swamp next to me. I grunted him over and shot him at 15 yards as he sniffed a Tinks 69 scent bomb. Got him hauled in and hung, and went back out. Just about to bite into that darned sandwich again, and two more 8 pointers are chasing this doe through the woods and around my stand at full gallop! They would stop and the bucks would spar, and then the chase was on again! Through all of this, I could not get a shot at anything. (Yes, we are party hunting, I have 3 kids around me during this whole episode.) Hopefully one of the boys catches up with one or both!

Chris Tuckner: I hope ya kept that lucky sandwich, man that thing would be in my pocket all week!
we are in full swing on the SE, i saw so many deer this very AM on my long backroad drive to work! one buck (decent 6) was standing in the middle of a picked bean field staring down a doe 50 yards from the road, you know its on when bucks are in open fields during daylight! seen 2 good shooters tailing about 7 does across a hayfield also this morning.
