It has been way too long since I harvested a deer with my bow. Last year I was unable to connect, heck I didn’t even draw back last year. The year before I shot and was unsuccessful in finding a doe. This year is different …every year for my birthday, my wife and son (4 years old) accompany me down to the bunk house for a weekend of relaxation and family time. Saturday morning I was up at butt-crack had a small breakfast and headed out. Sat down by the pond with hopes that the deer would take a drink before heading to the bedding areas. I saw lots of critters that morning…..turkeys, coon, squirls, a badger and 9 does and fawns. I had two does come into my stand around 8:30 and took aim at the first. Perfect double lunger, Rage did a number on her with a perfect pass through and made a huge hole. No need to wait, followed her from my stand running through the woods and heard her pile up. Got down, called my wife and told her to get Isaac and herself ready, I would be back in soon. I grabbed my arrow, nice red bubbly blood, followed the blood trail and found her about 60-70 yards from the stand. Went back to get changed and grabbed the camera and four wheeler. Best part of the morning was when my son met me as I was walking to the bunk house. He came running and very excited that I shot a deer for him. Scent lock went right out the door, he gave me the biggest hug, it was great . Any way we loaded up and went to go retrieve her. Isaac thought it was great, ran up, petted her (my wife was a little leary about bringing him with the blood and everything), but it was great. Anyway, here are some photos. Have a great week.

Way to “Put em down”! The Rage strikes again! No better feeling than making the perfect shot….oh wait…yes there is…having your son/daughter greet you with a big hug afterwards!

The blood trail with that Rage is insane. I could have tracked her in the dark with out lights. When she finally expired it looked like a homicide scene from the movies. When I went to move her for photos, my wife almost lost it . There was about two gallons on blood and lungs laying on the ground. The boy thought is was something new to play in.
