Plenty of action tonight

So heres the deal, I work third shift and spend alot of time tracking the weather on the internet. Yesterday afternoon the forecast suggested to me Tuesday would be a great day to go out. But this morning on the way home from work in the rain I tossed around the idea of going out tonight, and after looking at some online sources I made up my mind.

I reach my stand early, 4 p.m., and the wind is absolutely perfect coming out of NW. After sitting for two and a half hours I hear a grunt from the east, I am possitive a buck will be showing up anytime, and he does.

He was better than any deer I have taken so far, but I decided this year I will only shoot something to go in the books, his tine length left alot to be desired, he has eight points and was well past his ears. He toyed with my mind for five minutes turning from one perfect shot to the next. I watched him slowly walk away and wondered if I made the right decision. I figured I would take a peak towards my sons stand(who is at home with the flu)and to my surprise there is a deer feeding by his stand, a huge deer! At this point its around 6:45 or 7 and Im running out of time, I look at him through the binocs and I believe he is the stud I have on camera. I grabbed my tube and gave two very soft grunts. He immediately started to walk up the hill and destroy a small tree.

I was certain he was on his way and then I seen him at the top of the hill around 125 yards away straight down the fence line from me. He hopped the fence and that was the last I saw of him. What an amazing night out, I havent had the heart to tell my boy yet and may not.

Another thing that happened tonight around 6 was a sound I heard, It sounded like a bear growl or something of that nature. It made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.
Anyways I’ll get ’em next time.

Sounds like you weren’t bored I was up at the cabin hunting this weekend and checked the Cudde for pics. It is on a feeder about 30 yards behind the cabin, a couple of does, a couple of basket racked bucks and then….. drumroll please… about a 90 LB Black Bear !!!! I know they are in the area, but never “seen” one except for at the dump

Congrats on your encounters Patrick and yes – you made the right choice by not shooting that buck.  You set your goal earlier in the year and you were already rewarded by seeing that shooter by your son’s stand! Keep it up and I’m betting you or your son will have another encounter with the big boy!

BigG – congrats on your bear sighting!

I actually use the roar and after writing that story I thought that to.A buddy of mine has two pics of a black bear no more than a mile from my land but I have yet to see one in this area.

If i were you, i would hope that was a growl/roar If that were the case, why would a buck have that high of testosterone already??
