I do fatheads when jigging spoons (cut behind the side fins), shiners below tip-ups on a hook through just behind the dorsal fin.

Fat head heads under a spoon. Bobber, rainbow or shiner. Tip ups, smaller pike decoys.

I can’t say I’m a big shiner fan for the pond. I have caught them on shiners on the pond, but I have not noticed a difference between using shiners or fatheads. Rainbows can be ok too, but again have not noticed a huge difference between them and fatheads. I would just stick to using fatheads as they don’t cost as much and stay alive longer versus shiners.

Yep, that’s what I do. I prefer siler versus gold shiners.

We prefer goldies, and if you want a real active minnow nothing out works a large rainbow.

So I went out Saturday morning and in the evening, I saw a few deer and got totally eaten by gnats. My ears are swollen and my eyelids also, and that is with me wearing a face net and neck gaiter. My brother in law told me about an item that runs off of batteries and butane. Anyone ever use one and had good results, or any other good ways to get rid of gnats and skeeters?

I never used Thermacell either, but have heard it does work! I hunted the Hager City area this weekend and never had much off a problem with bugs…. just a few no-see-ums.

I have used thermacell and let me tell you it deffinately works! Couple of days ago as soon as I stepped out of the truck I had mosquitos buzzing my ears and followed me all the way to my blind where they swarmed. I turned on my thermacell and with in 10 minutes there wasn’t a bug near me and I was bug free until after dark when I headed back towards the truck. I deffinately recomend it. it comes with one butane cartridge and three repellent mats and they sell replacement cartridges and mats as well.

I have not tried the Thermocell either but hear good things about it.

Has anyone tried the Scent Blocker bug repellent? I see they have 2 formuals, one for ticks and the other for other bugs.

    Thanks
