What is everyone’s first sit going to look like and where will it be?

The Misses and I will be down by Madelia Saturday morning and she will be hunting our best stand down there if wind holds true as forecasted. This stand is definitely a spot on a spot location. It sits on a corn field edge that also happens to be on the top of a ridge which intersects a draw and also adjacent to a CRP field along with woods. From this stand you can shoot into the corner of the CRP where they cut across out of the woods, into the woods as the stand is located there where a ridge and a draw come together, and also can shoot out to the corn field edge. We just need a Westerly or North Wind. I will be sitting with her and watching the action.

It is almost here boys! What about everyone else?? Where will you be sitting ?????

I will be sitting in a boat hoping to win a new boat. Good Luck! I look forward to reading a report. I haven’t deer hunted in a long time, but I enjoyed reading about all the scouting and food plot work you did.

My first sit this year will be my most anticipated so far, that is because it is my son’s first year hunting. We will be set up in a small finger of woods that connects to woods together, with an open field in front of us that produces alot of traffic. We usually dont see any monsters there but it is high traffic and has produced good video footage in the past.
I told my son he can take whatever he wants his first year but he has to go bigger every year after that, he said he will be passing up anything real little and waiting for something respectable. He’s twelve and already is showing more discipline than me. I’ll keep everyone posted on his success.

    IM SO PUMPED!!!

Im gonna be in a big oak tree that is right on a point or finger that sticks slightly out into a been field. Behind me is a major bedding area, and the deer seem to either funnel down the finger into the beans or enter the beans on the inside corner from where the finger meets back up with the field edge. Needless to say i can cover everything, and the longest shot would be 35 yards. To say im pumped would be an understatement. Please be a north wind as there is a good buck entering the field there. South wind im gonna change it up and probably be overlooking a funnel into an oak stand. Needless to say I am pumped. Should be good to just be in the stand and see deer. I love early season hunting, especially with how the temps have been getting down at night. Good luck to all, but most of all, HAVE FUN. The season is upon us, and it can hardly get any better.

depending on the wind, one area i will be sits on a creek crossing. This is not my main concern because i know from last year that the bucks cross the creek farther north up the creek in the thick cattails to a super thick strip of cedars that follows down the south to a fence crossing, where i will be sitting 25 yards away hoping to see a big un

Will be in Buffalo County! Going over on Friday Evening to scout with “Grifter”. Mission is to get a doe 1st, since in Wisconsin it is earn-a-buck. Scent lok and Scent Blocker gear all washed, Mathews is ready, Rage Broadheads ready….Now only if I can sleep the night before!

If the forcasted westerly wind holds, I will be setting up on a oak ridge located just on top of a swamp, which is a well used bedding area. This spot then transitions to cedars, and leads to a good bean field that some shooters have been hangin around in just before dark! I’ll be setting up just outide the transition to offer myself a good look at 6-7 trails.

Plan B will be for any Easterly wind, and is located on top of another oak ridge that sits atop a well used bedding area. A good stand of open oaks then leads to a hay field approximatly 150 yds away that gets hit pretty hard in September. I plan on using a convergence of 2 thickets in the open oaks as my death trap.

    Good luck everyone this weekend…THWACK!

Im going to wait till about 8 am. walk down the logging road, then when i get close to my stand put on a slow stalk. If its clear i will climb up into my stand, hang up my gear, put the bug suit on, take out Where the Red Fern Grows, and sit all day long. This spot is on the edge of a swamp right in front of a pile of logs covered in the finest of foods. Hopefully that big bruin will show up this weekend….

Good luck guys ill start chasing em when i shoot a bear

I’m not sure where I’ll be. I haven’t checked the cameras for over 2 weeks so I need to do that first to determine deer movement. It will also depend on some last minute scouting the night before along with wind direction. Good luck to everyone and take a moment to count your blessings – we are very fortunate to be able to hunt this magnificent animal.

Ive got a new spot to look at and from up on the hill coming down the the lower land theres a 5 acres lake on the left side of the property with the river to the right 3 blocks west of there. They walk through the property coming from the lake and then downhill to the river and willows there. The guy who owns the property next door says its a regular interstate of two trails that are worn into the ground. Somewhere on those two trails by the lake as they come from it or on the ridge at the top of the hill or on the lower land next to the willows by the river is what im thinking but I have to walk it and look for old rubs to make my mind up. Im going to look for old rubs on the trees and look for the bedding and feeding areas and when they come, scrapes. I talked to George tonight and he said to bring my trailcam and post it by the willows, he said hes seen more then one nice buck at one time standing there befor they go down to the river to drink. Tons of does he said.

Well I’ll be sitting on my couch, But that’s only because I currently don’t deer hunt. However I’m getting the itch after this year. This year I put in a food plot for my brother in-law, and it has been my baby. (well besides the little guy) I have placed the trail cam in 10 different locations, and sat in 5 stands watching the deer pass. Helping him scout all of “our” locations. So I may be in bed, and hanging out with my son, but a part of me will be in one of 2 spots this weekend, where ever my brother in-law is and I know I’ll be the 1st call! Not that you guys need it but good luck, be safe, and I look forward to the great stories.

    RangerSki-
What part are you headed to? I was “lucky” enough to shoot one up there in 1991. Been depressed ever since…not being able to ever go back.

We hunted the Sawbill Lake area…

Not sure if i will make it out on Sat or not… all depends on the Cameras and the wind. Looks like Sunday a.m. might be the better morning of the 2. if i don’t make it out… it’s not the end of the world. the time will come sometime in Oct. when the pressure will begin to mount and i will spend every min possible waiting for Mr. Big. Good Luck to all this weekend

I will be sitting in a secton of woods that is about an acre in size and connects with the back parking lot of a business. Sounds weird but the deer are all over this area. Last year they had dug four holes for footings for a new building and on three seperate days there were deer stuck in the holes. My buddy missed a deer in the 160’s here last year. This spot then transitions into crp and a large swamp area. There are also houses in the area. I can see into the living room of one. Hopefully they have some good cartoons on in the morning.

Never overlook the weird spots. Someday it will really pay off.

Well, just checked the forcast for my first sit Saturday am. Good news is I won’t have to worry too much about packing extra ice for the big boys, body cavity. Wake up to 54 degs . Winds out of the SW at 8 mph. I have three stands that will work great for this wind. One in a sink hole and two in the big woods. Can’t wait, looks like I will be trying out my new rain gear too. Good luck everyone.

Remember shoot a doe, let em grow.

I’ll be in a stand that I put in a wooded gully that divides two huge cornfields on rolling hills. Picturesque and hopefully very productive. I have high hopes!
