I highly recommend the 4-stroke. I have been running them since they first hit the market. I am pretty sure they are just as fast as my lazermag xpress 8″-
I have never had a problem with the composite shaft-ever.
It starts very easy, in extreme cold 10 and below, it needs to warm up for some time- but then it is good to go.

Not mixing gas/oil is great- I love the four stroke-

I had the same question about the composite auger. Will it stand up to drilling holes in -30 if you need to tap the auger to get rid of the ice? It’s not always that cold up here but it happens often enough to wonder.

I fished mille lacs last winter- when it was around -15

I didn’t have any problems tapping it on the ice to clear the slush off of the auger. I have also dropped mine a few times, with no cracks or complaints yet.

I heard a rumor that you have to keep these 4 strokes upright. Is there any truth to that?

Upright or laying on the gas tank side….

My composite auger broke during late ice on Mille Lacs. It broke while trying to extract it from 30+ inches of ice after breaking through. I didn’t clear out the hole often enough and snapped the top flight off.

On Strikemaster’s defense, I have never had a problem in the cold and they offered me a new auger. I chose to put on the steel laser for a replacement so that the flighting carries out material higher. The flighting runs higher on the shaft so I don’t have to clear the hole soo often in thick ice.

I love the 4-stroke auger and also highly recommend it.

I just bought the Lazer 224 last year and I am really impressed with how quickly it cut with very little effort.

I remember looking in a magazine a few years ago and they had a deer feeding chart and predicted the best hunting times of the day. I used it that year and it seemed to work most of the time . Does anyone know where I can find one online that is free? I can find them but they seem to all want money.

That is kinda what i was looking for but the one I previously used was pretty much excusively for hunting. It gave moon phase, best feeding times and predicted best hunting times. But thanks for your help , I really appreciate everyone on this site pulling together to beat the odds!
