I’ve got this “little” bachelor group coming through often. So far we’ve identified at least 3 different “shooter” bucks with a possible fourth. When can I expect this group to start breaking up? And when they do, will they all stay in the same 5 or 6 mile area or will the bigger ones push the others out?

1st question. Do you need any help shooting any of those bad boys??? WOW!!

That group will slowly start to break up after they shed their velvet. They can tolerate each other at first, but the closer it gets to November they will not. Each buck will have their own CORE area that he will attend to and will somewhat push the others out depending on Hierarchy. However, when it comes close to the rut and they are up seeking/searching. All bets are off as you will probably have all these bucks again on your piece of land plus others. You just need to be out there when they show up.

Good luck and I look forward to hearing about and seeing one of these guys down on the ground with your arrow in him.

holy crap man I would give anything to even HAVE a pic of the one w/ a drop Opening night on a food source is your best bet at finding these boys together but it may be too late…If you can get into the woods and find out where they are entering the field, this is your best bet at shooting him w/ enough light left, this is called a staging area. They will watch the field for a duration of time, or wait till it gets dark enough where they feel more comfortable. BE CAREFUL when hunting these guys!! Nothing will spook them more than human scent and this may drive them to another property, or to nocturnalality(is that a word ) Think about entering and exiting the field, wind direction, etc. Hunt em hard and show more pics

my avatar is a Phacops Rana Crassituberculana.
It’s a species of trilobite that I collect. Some of the best preserved fossils in the world. They have been renamed Eldgredgeops rana but I stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the change since all my id’s and email addresses would have to change.
They are my little superstars. I’ve seen my “bugs” on numerous tv shows and even have two of mine that are part of a larger collection in the Smithsonian.
