I guess it all depends. Are the higher dollar cameras better???? It depends on what you are looking for. I personally like the Moultrie Cameras for the dollar. Are the trigger speeds as fast as a CuddeBack??? No, but I can not justify the extra $150, because I very rarely miss a deer becuase of the Moultries slower trigger. That being said. I have 2 Cudde Back Excites, 2 Moultrie IR60’s , 2 Moultrie’s IR 40’s and 2 Moultrie Game Spy 40’s. The Moultrie’s Range from $79 to $249.00 and for the price I like the IR 40’s the best for $199.00. A regular flash may or may not spook deer. However, thieves and trespassers will have a harder time identifying a nd finding a Infrared Camera then a non. Thus liking the IR40 best.
With that being said, I would suggest buying a cheaper one first. Right now Cabelas has the Moultrie Game Spy 40 with 4.0 megapixels on Sale for $79.99. I just picked up two of them. Make sure you get a digital camera over a film trail cmaera one. Then shop Walmart or Best Buy for a SD card. A 1 MB card goes for around $15.00. This will give you a base adn soemthing to start with but still maitaining a decent quality camera. See how much yo ulike it and if you buy another try a different one brand or model.
Here are a few pics of the Moultrie’s IR 40 & IR 60. The pics of the Gale Farm were taken with the IR 40 and the pics of the Steng Ranch are the IR 60. The IR 60 is definitely a better pic with 2.0 more mega pixels, but is also more money. I use the cameras to see what is on the property not to win a photo contest of clarity.
Hope this helps.
I also have the Moultrie IR 40. I haven’t had any problems with it. The batteries are going on 2 years of use. Can’t believe how long they are lasting compared to other camera’s. Picture quality is pretty good.

Ive had very good luck with Cuddeback camera’s…I currently have 3 and havent had a problem with any of them…Yes they are a bit more $$$ but after testing out others that are very battery hungry they pay for themselves in the end…the ease of use and trigger speed are also some features I really like about them..There are many good cameras out there just keep your reciept because there is nothing worse then spending your hard earned money and gettin a lemon…good luck and welcome to the addiction of trail cams …Jay
My batteries on the Moultries lasted from August until middle of February last year.

How many pictures did you get?
Not a ton but I would average about 75-125 a week. the farm I had them on did not have a ton of deer.
I went through 4 sets of D’s in my Cuddeback NoFlash. That’s 16 batterys from August through early January. I am figuring double this year, as I picked up a second Cudde, Thanks to Mark !!!!

I set both my CuddeBack NoFlash’s up at the cabin this weekend. One on a newly built deer feeder, 20 yards from the cabin and one on the trail leading in to it. Hopefully I get some shots, I know I got about 50 of my cousins boys cruising the trails on the 4 wheelers saturday night

Rob is this the CAMERA you are talking about?
Steve that is the one.
I have the IR 40 (4 mega pixels) and the pics are great. I have not seen the pics from the Game Spy 40 yet??? I jsut set my 2 out. Let me know what you think if you get some Steve.
Now maybe I can find out who the dirty scoundrel is that has been messing around with my doe!
I picked up a Cabelas Outfiiter/Moultrie IR 5.0 last night for $199.99. This camera is sweet and now my favorite camera for $200 or less. On sale this week. Regular Price $229.99.
The bad part, I also dumped a total of $980.00 yesterday on hunting stuff. $540 @Cabelas, $200 @ Sportsman’s Warehouse, $100 for my arrows and $140 on the Misses arrows.
I guess I could look on the bright side.
Since I spent over $500 @ Cableas last night. I received a a $150 gift card free!
Lucky guy… I am trying to figure out how to get my $150 coupon used too…

Question for those of you that have a camera with a flash.
If your SD card would fill up will the flash still go off when something passes in front of the camera? On the Moultrie that I have there are three settings for picture resolution Low, Medium & High. I have mine set on High for the best picture, with 4.0 megapexels set on high I can get around 950 pics on a 1 GB SD card. In two days I had 193 pics so I can see where it would not take long for the card to fill up.
Steve, I go to Wally World and Pick up 2GB cards for around $20.00. Double the pics.
Yup I got mine there also the reason I went with the 1GB was the instructions said the larger the card the slower the reaction time can be on the camera. Maybe there is not that big of difference between the 1GB and 2GB when it comes to reaction time on the camera.
So I am still wondering if the card fills up will the camera still flash or will it stop?
