Do you guys think the trial camera flash spooks the deer enough to make him not come in that area any longer or do you guys that use flash cameras get numerous pics of the big boys?

What about once Fall and Seasons rolls around??? Does your opinion change????

I really think in the Summer time, that flash does not do much to them. However, I think they become a lil’ more eery once the velvet comes off. What are your thoughts out there IDO Hunters.

just posted some pics of a nice one I got with my camera and it’s a flash. I have pictures of him 4 of the last 7 days and they have all been at night so it hasn’t spook him yet.

Lip…in my opinion no..with an explination, before trail cameras came out I used to take pics of the deer I wouldnt shoot with a 35mm camera. There were times I would take 10 pics of the same deer 10yrds from my stand with flash and no spookage. Ive used flash trail cameras for aprox. 9 years and havent seen any issues…now the flash combined with the noise the old 35mm DC100 trail cams made, that may spooke em but I dont think the flash alone is what would spook em..With all the digital cameras out they are much quieter and in my expierence I dont think the newer digital flash cameras will scare a deer out of the area. Good luck to all this year…Jay

I was wondering this and just about to post and with your pics PHACOPs it sent me over the edge and had to ask here.

I still think some pressured deer could be spooked by them, but early deer are not IMO.

I would have to say no, but once bucks shed their velvet, i don’t usually put out cameras because for one, i don’t want to be going through my hunting spots while there might be a mature buck in the area and could possibly spook him. This year i want to put a camera mount higher up in a tree at an angle so when the flash does go off, from above, it is perceived as “lightning” rather than a giant flash of light from ground level that could possibly shy away deer

I say no it does not spook them. With all the lightning they deal with all year long, I don’t think they would think anything about a flash going off, and relating it to danger. Here is the biggest I got on camera last year and he showed up on the same trail on back to back days on Halloween and the day before. But this is just my opinion. I think the concern with the flash is just a marketing scheme.

I also believe that a flash does not spook them as long as the camera is not an old 35M and ends up winding the film. A guy has more to worry about like contaminating the area with your scent than a flash. I try and be close to scent free as possible whenever dealing with cameras. I also try not to place them near my stand.

I don’t think anyone can say catagorically, it doesn’t or it does. Are there deer on the perimeter, that see the flash and spook ? Who knows. I buy the NoFlash, because the last thing I want is some trespasser walking by my camera, and getting that too….. That’s why I bought them, to keep em

Brad, you know me and I totally agree with you on the scent thing. No matter what time of year it is except for shed hunting. I do not enter the woods with out extreme caution, being as scent free as possible and leaving low impact.

G, my thoughts also with a No Flash. Some properties I need them due to Trespassers, other properties it does not matter.

I still think the flash could spook a mature buck during his heightened awareness time, especially if it is close to his bedroom or food source. Maybe not once, but if he encounters that flash numerous times during October or December. He might avoid that area a lil’ more. Jsut my $.02.

Last year about all I got was small basket racks of around 100″ and I got a few several times during bow season. The big guys who have been around awhile, I don’t know. Maybe if they have run into problems with hunters where the cameras were set during the season, good question and I’ll be watching for any results this year to see if it does. My huntch, if its on a main travel route that he uses all the time, all of a sudden one night a flash starts going off, I don’t know, maybe he’d get spooked, maybe the does are more important to him. Probably a good reason to not set right on the trail, 20′ to the side.

Depends on the particular animal. In some cases yes, in some no. WTA
