James, I’m with Gman no doubt Muley’s. Easy give away is the Snout and Big (Mule) ears
yup 100% muley…check the ears, and face…unless they are those big eared desert whitetail Ive heard about
That’s a mule deer in Colorado according to the email that I got. You can tell it is Colorado by looking at the cat. The tag on it’s collar lists an address in Fort Collins.
i would have to say mulie because of the face and ears. However, the rack looks like a mix between a whitetail and a mulie. My buddy shot one of these this last fall in Montana. Really cool looking with each side looking like two different breeds!!!
100% mule deer . Looking at he face it is more grey and also doesn’t have the white rings by his eyes. It actually looks like a buck that walked by me tonight, nice up and comer.
My vote goes for Whitetails
I could be wrong, but at first glance, I see whitetail.
Now, I have seen many of each species, if I see either in the open, I can tell right off the bat. In this particular instance, it is tough to really tell.
The ears are the only thing making me second guess, but I have seen whitetails with big ears as well.
I think thier whitetails. From the mulies I’ve seen theres not enough black hairs on these to be mulies, I could be wrong but they look more like whitetails to me.
Let’s see, no white ring around the nose, darker colorations, donkey sized ears, and fork horns — must be a white-tail Just kidding, it looks like a blacktail from way out West.
Thanks guys. The members on the fishing site couldn’t come up with a convincing arguement one way or another. I’ve never seen a mulie in person and I haven’t hunted whitetails in over 15 years so what I knew about it wasn’t going to get us very far.
So I thought I’d run it by the guys in the know.
Whitetails… The ears would be WAY bigger on muleys, and the face would be whiter, this time of year. Whitetails, in mid winter, can have dark patches of hair on their faces, between the eyes. Thats what I think has happened, making the nose look gray, but its really light brown. Plus when I seen them run away, later in this picture, they didn’t bounce !!!

No way this is anything but a mulie, THIS is 100% whitetail and neither one with the cat have the distinct white right behind the nose. Also I’ve never laid my eyes on a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 yo whitetail to have a rack like that.

Remind me not to let you shoot anything without my approval this fall. God knows what we’ll end up with if you think this is a whitetail.
I think Big G has been hanging around too many packer fans! He doesn’t even know what a whitetail looks like anymore!
Because of this, I vote when we are in SD, he has to drag out our mulies first (before he fills his tag) so he knows what they look like!
It looks like the rare and illusive Buck Toothed Jungle Weasel to me. Or it’s actually a Mule deer.
Good luck with that…. I honestly cannot buy they are muley, I have seen both, up close… I say they look less like muleys, not neccesarily more like whitetails. I say, he who does not make it to the trip planning meetings, will be the beeeeoch in camp….. I have been to 1 meeting so far, how bout you other guys….

Nice try, but for admitting that you still don’t know if those are muley or WT you my friend are stuck dragging our deer out first
