Ok lets try this again, do you have pics of your first deer if so we would like to see them. If the deer is hanging from a rope that’s ok because years ago that was a common pic. As an FYI to our members we have decided to do away with the Deer Photo Rules and change them to Guidelines, you can view them here. If you have any questions please feel free to send me a PM and lets keep this thread for our old deer pics.

Here’s a pic of my first buck. This was actually my very first day deer hunting and this buck was the very first deer that I ever saw in the woods! Talk about lucky! I shot him with a double barrel 12 gauge shotgun (slug). Even though the year was 1983, I remember it like it was yesterday. My sister was standing next to me and saw the whole thing happened. After we saw the deer go down, we were jumping and hugging each other. My dad came running over and couldn’t believe what we had laying on the ground. He looked at me and said, “Son, it will be a long time before you ever see a buck like this again”. Boy was he right!

I was 13 years old – I am the second standing person on the left – the buck hanging in the back to my left was mine. An 11 pointer shot on Thanksgiving Day 1973. As a side note, my uncle standing to my left has an arm band. In the early 70’s and before, the quota system to shoot a doe was called a party permit – a party of 4 hunters could apply to shoot a doe – if drawn, the one in the party that was wearing the armband could shoot a doe. Back then the deer kill was 60,000 to 80,000 deer annually. Funny what proper deer management that proceeded the party permit system did for the deer population.

Nice deer everyone! These are a couple of my first deer. I deer hunted for the first and only time in 2001 on my uncles farm in WI. I was sitting in a stand in some standing corn when I saw this guy doing a belly crawl cross the rows of corn. He made the wrong choice when he decided to stop broadside in the row of corn my stand was in. I shot him at about 40 yards when he stopped in the row. After the shot he got up and ran directly at me, I shot him once more in the shoulder as he got closer and one last time as he cut out into the open field. We found him under a pine tree in a pool of his blood about a half hour later.

As much fun as it was, I found that deer hunting is just not my thing. I live to watch a dog work, a flushing rooster and ducks with the landing gear down. That is how my heart gets pumping . I think I may try it again when my daughter and other unborn children get to be the right age. I think I would enjoy the tradition with my kids .

Besides, I think I did ok on my first day out .

He is an 8 pointer and I put him on the wall because I thought I may never deer hunt again. I’m not real happy with the mount either .

    Great idea Mr.Plants

This isn’t mine, but my Father’s first deer. He had never hunted till this year and he shot this great deer. It took him a few shots to get him down, but the 30/30 did its job. We celebrated for 2 days straight I still have a headache

I will try to scan my first deer and post that one as well, but as stated earlier, I have to find a scanner

Heres to the ones we’ll never forget! Some great stories and old school pics everyone. Had to scan this one too! This is my first deer from 1984. One day my mom went shopping during “crazy days” and came home with a Bear Silver Mag compound bow and it soon became my best friend. Once I was of legal hunting age I couldn’t wait to hunt with it as I had it all set up with a quiver and single pin sight set-up. This deer came right to my stand and at about 15 yards I drew, shot and missed. He stopped after a couple bounds so I knocked another arrow, took aim and let’r fly. To my suprise the arrow entered exactly where it should. The deer ran and dropped within site. The evening I shot this little buck my father was away on business and I had no idea what to do next. So, my mother called over to the neighbors to see if he could help out and thank god he did. I couldn’t wait to call my dad and tell him the news! The rest is history and I’ve been absolutely passionate about deer since whether it’s hunting, or just out in the woods being amongst them. BTW, To this day I still hunt cold weather with the same exact reversible camo/blaze orange hat.

You have nothing to worry about Greg. The pic Steve has, is what’s now commonly referred to as hieroglyphics.
