Man this stuff can make a guy mad

D.C. Attorney General Linda Singer said the appeals court wrongly interpreted the history of the Second Amendment. Mayor Adrian Fenty added Tuesday that the 31-year-old ban “has saved many lives since (1976) and will continue to do so if allowed to remain in force.”

Ya, if you would have allowed handguns in your city, you would be up there with Detroit. Instead you are down there at #7. When is the world going to wake up and realize law abiding citizens with guns don’t commit crimes. AAAARRRRGGGGG!!

I don’t see this court being confused at all about the meaning of the second ammendment which reads….

    Quote:

A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

    Pretty clear.

Only tecnical problem may be the fact that Washington D.C. is not a state in this country.

Since the Supreme Court has found that the 2nd Amendment protects a collective right to own guns and not an individual right, if the Court addresses the 2nd Amendment directly it will be a really, really big deal. The justices have been pretty deferential to precendent, which makes me think they probably won’t change it by finding an individual right … but they probably won’t come up with something more restrictive, either. You never know. If any case, I think the fact that they’re taking this case is a good thing!

By the way, isn’t the internet great? 10-15 years ago the only thing we’d know about this is what some of us read in the newspaper and magazines, which I would expect to be pretty limited, and some of us wouldn’t even read that! All most of us would know is what we heard from a buddy in the boat/blind. This is potentially a very big deal issue to gun owners (not that most of us can do much about it aside from financially supporting the groups that support our positions), and I really like the fact that so many of us are already aware of the issue.

Should be interesting what they “find”. The state vs DC thing is interesting for sure. I think this is more about highlighting a wedge issue in an election year than confirming or denying an individual’s right to keep and bear arms. Banning handguns in DC is more of a token gesture than gun control as you can just drive out of the city.

Don’t get excited about this subject. Nobody is going to take away any guns.

Residents in Washington D.C. basically had their guns taken away.

The main reason for the lawsuit is to ensure it does not happen elsewhere….

Basically this is so politicized that we can atleast thank our lucky stars right now that the makeup of the court leans right, right now. My prediction is that it will fall along political lines…(no surprise here), and atleast for this case….will side with the gun owners of D.C. This should give a few years of precedent back to this case….that is until the balance gets tipped on the court….God help us sportsmen if that happens!

Well, I hope nobody loses their right to bear arms. Having said that, was the ban on religion and politics lifted that was imposed on IDA last winter??? Just wondering, or was it lifted due to the emergence of In-depthoutdoors?

My understanding was if it was outdoor related it could be discussed, and I figured with the Supreme Court deciding if the 2nd Amendment pertained to individuals that it qualified, if I offended any one it wasn’t my intention. But if they decide that the gun ban is legal then it would pertain to the rest of the states and anyone who owns a gun!! Again if I offended anyone I’m sorry!!

No problems ederd. I found an article about this subject the day before you post it. I thought about posting it, but I wasn’t sure. It certainly comes close to the rules regulating political subject matter.

Seeing as how well it’s gone so far, I personally see no reason to pull this post. We try to keep an even keel around here, not wanting to be a gestapo strike force pulling anything and everything that may offend one person in a crowd.

As long as this thread doesn’t derail into a “My political party can beat up your political party” mess things should be okee dokee.

Meanwhile, I am grabbing 2 of my .22’s and my .17 and taking my sons to the squirrel woods to settle a score.
