Here’s a buck we called Double Drop. We seen him a couple of times shining (in WI it’s legal) and we also got this trail cam pic of him. He’s only a 2.5 year old and my buddy is pretty sure that he has a shed off of him last year.

Well we had a lot of talks of whether or not we should shoot him. No doubt – he’s an awesome buck but we just kept on saying “what would he be like next year!” We never made up our mind and we both agreed that we would do whatever we thought was the right thing to do at that time.

Well the gun season passed and we never seen Double Drop while hunting on the stand nor did we hear of anyone getting him so we thought he made it through.

Until…. low and behold… I saw a picture of another member here on this site (easy) holding him in his hands while entering his photo into the IDO Deer Photo Contest!

I sent a PM to Easy congratulating him on this awesome buck and I was also trying to find out where he killed him. So far he has not replied back to me. I think I know where he hunts and if so, this buck was about 2.5 miles away where we got him on the trail camera. Just goes to show you that sometimes these bucks have a very large roaming area.

Bottom line is – This site is awesome! Without it we would have kept on wondering what ever happened to Double Drop? Well at least now we know!

I hope you get my message Easy and Congratulations again on a great Pepin,WI buck!

My thoughts too, Could he only be 2.5?? An awesome young deer. Grifter a few years back before digital trail cams a friend of mine and I got a pic of the same buck with distint triple brow tines and they were taking 2 miles away. Bitter sweet sorta but you have to be happy for him as I know you are.

Yes – we are sure he is only 2.5 year old. A good friend of mine knows every single buck in that area and he has his shed when he was only a 1.5 year old. Also, if you look at the trail cam pic you can see he has a very young looking face and his chest also looks young. That’s why we kept on thinking if he made it one more year he would be even bigger. But who could ever pass on this deer? And lastly… Yes – I’m very happy for Doral (easy) and he should feel very proud that he harvested this awesome deer!

Cool story Grifter,& thanks for sharing. Man I love watching, seeing, figurning them out and reading stories about deer.

Also look at the deers hind end and stomach. See how it comes up in the back. I would guess 2.5-3.5 and yes definitely hard to pass up.

    Congrats Doral

Tiffany passes up deer like that because they “look” young! I wouldn’t care if that buck was in diapers with a rack like that…WOW!

Was he jaw aged, by someone who knew how to do it. That is the only way to “know” how old the deer is. You can’t 100% go off from horn, face, body, weight, etc. I would be curious to know his age for sure. If he was only 2.5, wow, can you imagine at 5.5-6.5 what he would have been. And in that neck of the woods anything is possible. Congrats to the hunter on a great buck. WTA
