    First time poster.

Got out muzzleloader hunting last weekend before the storm. About 7 am, had a nice doe appear on the edge of the swamp I was hunting. Brought the gun to my shoulder and noticed that the rear dove tail sight was missing, so I tried lining it up with the weld mark on the dovetail and the front bead, pulled the trigger and missed.

Within a half hour a pretty decent 10 pointer came out, same results.

Never reloaded, but saw another 8 deer come by before the snow started.

    Welcome to In-Depth Outdoors Allen!!!

That’s too bad about you sight, better luck next time. This is my Third year muzzle loader hunting, my fist year the first shot I had at doe I forgot to load the gun, all I had done was load the cap

It sounded like I was shooting a cap gun at her.

Hey welcome. I feel your pain. I was bow hunting once, a big old doe comes by at about 15 yards, I pull back, and pling, the peep sight goes flying !!! I probably could have let er fly, looking down the arrow, but I was more pissed & disgusted than anything, and let down !!!

Welcome to the site Allen! Why is it when we muzzleloader hunt that we forget to bring our brains?

I think for me is that I’m really laid back when I’m hunting with a smoke pole. The year is almost over and I’m just happy to be out there enjoying the snow and cold weather. If I see a buck, it’s just icing on the cake for me. However, I think that contributes to lack of preparation and anticipation, which leads to missed opportunites.
