I have been addicted to the In-depth-angling website for a long time, and have been hooked on IDO hunting this year. First thanks for this great site.
Time for a contribution…
I was fortunate to take this Mule Deer in Western SD on Nov. 11th. I was out there for a quick weekend hunt with my brother-in-law and father-in-law. We stalked a very nice muley on Saturday, but were never able to get quite close enough for a confident shot. After my brother in-law and I stalked that deer for about an hour, we saw my father in-law on a bluff line 3/4 mile away putting a stalk on a nice muley, which is the one you see in the last picture. Very nice deer. The fence line you see behind him is 3 miles from our truck, and there are no vehicles or ATV’s allowed. It was a great deer, awesome hunt, but a heck of a hike.
On Sunday morning we got out to our spot before sunrise and were ready to start glassing. Right at daylight we could see approximately 25 deer, some within a couple hundred yards, and others along way in the distance. We decided to take a hike, as we thought a couple of the deer in the distance looked like nice bucks with small groups of does. About a 1/2 mile into our hike, my father-in law spotted 2 bucks running toward us. We figure they had been fighting, since the once I shot had the very tips of 2 of his points recently broken off. As the 2nd buck came within distance I was fortunate to make a shot at him on the run. Wow…was it an incredible rush.
As you can see by his face he had been around awhile. My brother in-law and I each loaded the deer up on our frame packs and hiked each of them out.
Both these deer were taken on public land.
