Just as soon as the ice lets me get out. Like most lakes the 1st ice is best as far as catching numbers of fish in-shore consistently through the day. Once the hordes of people get on the ice after the holidays I head off shore (mud and gravel) for a consistent day bite.

Unless your looking to relax and tip a few back , I’d suggest bringing a wheelers/sleds and portables if your going up after the holidays. This allows you to access the rest of the lake if/when fishing is slow in the rental.

    Good luck and have fun.

From first ice to mid jan is best in my opinion. Shallower early and then you got about a week of good fishing once you can get to the flats, after that it really slows down.

I like to fish the shallow rock reefs with the early ice!! It’s best to get out on these reefs prior to all the resort traffic gets started!!! Trucks…trucks pulling fish houses, cars, and more trucks!!! Than when we have enough ice to make the trip out to the mid-lake mud flats which can happen fairly early in December with the right weather/temperatures!!! It’s “rip some lips” time!!! The mud flats can be a very hot ticket!!!

Well, after I tagged, out, I let me cousin Tyler come to my hotspot… Well, after only an hour in the stand, he decided the first buck he saw was good enough, even though I tried to convince him otherwise. Here is the link to the buck video…it will take a while to load, but well worth the wait!

Yeah, I was using the buck roar…it is an amazing call. Right time at the right place, and it will bring them in. My roar call has accounted for four buck kills in the past two years.

I highly recommend the buck roar over the m.a.d buck growl.
