Warm Weekend Slow Down

  • #198771

    Hey guys,

Just checked the weather forecast for the weekend, and it looks like we are going to see temps in the 50’s, at least in southern, MN.

Think this will slow the chase down a little, and move the majority of activity into the twilight hours??

Could happen if the DNR would push the dang season back a couple weeks.

I think you guys are safe, as the peak of the rut is determined more by the lack of sunlight than the temperature. I think the deer will be moving just like every other year at this time.

I wouldn’t worry a bit! The last few days it has been warm and I’ve been lucky enough to be in the middle of alot of buck activity. Passed on a 100ish 8 pt tonight and when driving home I saw two 120-130 class buck nawing on the neighbors fallen apples. It’s been quite a few years since I’ve seen this much buck activity. Good luck to everyone!

I just spent the last 5 days hunting. Deer traffic was slow at best. Two days, didn’t see anything on stand.

Full moon, warm weather and wind. All bad factors this time of year.

Saturday and Sunday were the best mornings for movement with the cooler temps. One companion say a group of 12-15 that must have bumped by local turkey hunters in the am, but other than that it was one here and one there.

Driving to hunting locations each morning I saw most deer in the open fields feeding before first light. Be careful walking across any open fields to your stand, there is likely a deer or two feeding, I found out the hard way Tuesday morning.

Corn is coming out fast in SE MN, but deer don’t seem to be held up in the corn from what we saw. Best bedding area’s seem to be hillsides near set aside area’s. Creek bottoms have been favorable for us also.

Good luck to all this weekend, I hope to get out again on Friday and then the week between the 3A & 3B season.
