What makes a buck a shooter?

    I think the term “shooter” is different for everyone. You have to evaluate what type of genetics you have in your area. In some areas 170″ deer, may be as big as they get.

    Trail cameras and QDM help me set my goals for shooters. This year I know there are two booners in my area. I won’t shoot anything other than those two. Except for does.

    With these two already on the wall, and shooting two management bucks last year, that are still both at the taxidermist- I am setting my standards high- I have matching sheds from one of the bucks I have my sights on.

    Hey Luke, what did that one on the right measure. In the paper a few days ago there was a picture of two bucks locked up that were about that size that a hunter from Cedar Rapids shot recently. I guess one was dead with a broken neck and the hunter took the other one. Hes going to have them mounted on a rotating table for his basement. The total of both racks looked about 300″

    I do not think that is a bold statement at all he did not say he was going to shoot a booner he said if he could not shoot a booner he would not shoot a buck at all. I admire your standards and the goal you set for yourself Luke, with two bucks like that on the wall the next goal should be one for the record book IMHO.

    Never had them officially scored- my uncle who is a taxidermist rough scored them at 160 and 180- They both have some deductions-but I’ve always said nets are for fisherman…
