I am just wondering about encounters or stories you may have reguarding timberwolves. I have heard stories of people seeing them in certain areas but from what I’ve heard they’re on the up and are showing up in more and more places. Also what are these creatures capable of? I’ve heard many secondhand stories, one of which a bowhunter having to tie himself in for the night cause a pack would not leave his immediate area as if they were waiting for him. I know there are no documented cases in MN of t-wolf human attacks but I’m sure it’s had to have happen. I ask this because as I’m heading up to Mahnomen Co. this w-end to hang my rifle stand and the farmer informed me of some recent sightings in my hunting area. I have hunted that area for 24 years and have yet to have seen one but I only spend 3-4 days a year there. Most and foremost, I’m wondering if the deer may have been driven off this area. Any stories or info on t-wolves would be appreicated. Thanks, Randy

I seen one in Camp Ripley, about 6 or 7 years ago. It was right at first light, crossing a clearing across a Tank trail from me. You would have never believed how fast a guy can screw steps in, when you see one of them big boys.

I hunted way north for many years. I used to see them every year. We have even woke up to fresh snow with wolf tracks rite through camp . Sitting in the stand watching them for the first time is scary none the less. I didnt see any more or any less deer. The area I hunt now (park rapids) I heard them last year about a couple hundred yards from my stand houling. I would say they are more afraid of you than you are of them. It still gives you the creeps though, we have to thank movies and rumors for that. I wouldnt worry about them too much, just keep your eys and ears open you’ll be fine

Yeah, I would say it’s probly one of those “they’re more affraid of you” deals. The nice thing about T wolves that that you can climb a tree to get away. Can’t say that about bears.

I saw one in Riply last year.

i see atleast one a year up north at our cabin, last year i watched, well listened first, to them take down a fawn. Nothing like watching the sun come up on a fresh frozen woods and hear the wolves howling. Id love to get a mount of one for the cabin

My dad and mom swear there was a group of 3 timber wolves that hung out in a cornfield behind my house in Becker three years ago. My parents were at my house watchin the kids while the wife and I were i mexico catchin some sun. The cornfeild did have a bunch of deer herded up for the winter so there would have been a reason for them to hang out there and eat. My dad swears they were not coyotes and should know the difference as he is a lifetime hunter.
