I am looking to buy a Range Finder primarily for bowhunting but it would be nice for gun hunting also. I would like to spend less than $150. What do you guys recommend? Thanks.

Cabelas had the Nikon ProStaff 440 on Sale for $179.00.
Otherwise I think the Bushnell Sport is around $150.
Personally I would go with the Nikon.

October 16, 2007 at 2:11 pm #28968I have a Nikon and have never had a problem with it. The only thing that I would reccoment is that you get one that goes as close as 10-15 yds. These are very nice for bow hunting from a stand where depth perception can be hard.

October 16, 2007 at 2:17 pm #28969The Nikon Pro Staffer goes 11-400+ yards I believe!
I have had mine a lot of years 7 maybe, and I would not hunt without it.

October 16, 2007 at 2:19 pm #28972I also have the pro-staff and like it for the most part. Only downfalls I dislike are it’s lack of lightgathering ability and it’s a bit slippery in the hands but I fixed that with camo cloth tape.

October 16, 2007 at 2:26 pm #28974I just bought a Nikon pro staff 440. I have been playing with it alot, I think it a good deal for the price. All the reviews I read about it were pretty good.

Yep for $179 bucks hard to beat.
You got to remember Copper the objective lense on the ProStaff like most others are small and do not gather light like a good set of Binocs. I think the lense is 23mm on the Nikon.

October 16, 2007 at 7:00 pm #29017Thanks for the recommendations. It looks like the Nikon 440 would be a good fit for my needs. I’ll have to do some shopping around and see where I can get the best deal on it.

October 16, 2007 at 7:34 pm #29022That Range Finder has been $199-$229 for years. The $179 is the cheapest I have ever seen it new.

I asked if they knew why it was returned, the thought someone bought it and used it for a hunting trip and then returned it. Got it for 40% off origanal price.

I’m guessing the 440 means 440 yards, but what I have found from rangefinders, is that it will range a reflective object to 440 yards. Can you guys range a deer out to say 375 yards?
Thanks

MNwalleyehunterOctober 17, 2007 at 12:18 am #29047ive been able to range deer about that far when i hunt a spot that i am able to see deer that far It is pretty hard to keep the rangefinder steady when they are out that far. When it says 440, that means 440 yard maximum. Same thing as when they say 1000, 1500, etc
