Actually, I would like to forget about the Packers!!

All you can eat Friday night fish fry and chicken wings the Friday before opening morning. Stories of past hunts around the open fire with family and friends! It is the best time of year!

Opening MN deer hunt is always myself and my dad. Whenever either of us shoot a deer, even if its 5 minutes into opening morning. We get together, and the minute its hanging on the buck pole, we have a beer. Its the “celebatory beer”. Yes, we do keep it to one (unless its the end of the day that is)

Opening weekend is, for me, not so much the even getting a deer. Its just to see my old man as excited as a 12 year old, talking stratagy, ect.

    MAN am I excited !!

I know secent is the biggest give a way there is to let a deer know where you are. The day or two befor I go to stand I eat foods that aren’t ((gasious)), im a little more comfortable then and theres a whole lot better chance the deer won’t figure out im there, nothing like watering eyes when a deer comes into range. I make sure my fanny pack has everything in it the night befor plus all my clothes are washed, descented and has cover scent on them while in the bag, to put on when I get too the farm. I,ve double checked everything that I need. Ive already memorized the trail leading in and out of the timber so Im not wandering around in the dark. I’v got my climbing pegs descented and already in the tree. Plus I’ve been going over every technique that I can remember, theres more but thats enough for now.

A cousin of mine and I hunt the muzzle loader season. We meet at camp the day before the season starts and then head to Jenny’s cafe to get a good dinner and then back to camp to look through the scrap book that is kept at camp to reminisce about the years past. Then try to sleep for a few hours in anticipation of letting the smoke pole bark at a big buck.
