well finally mad eit out for the first time sunday to do some bow hunting. didnt see any thing in the morning so me and my buddy went to his dads property i climb up in a stand on the edge of a swamp he goes farther down the trail to set up the hut. well i just get settled down and grab my camo makeup and put it on. just as i put it back in my pack i hear this load noise, i look over just to see this beautiful doe standing about 12 yards away. she came running through the swamp. i wait for her to look away and she does, i stand up grab my bow and get ready. all she needed to do was stand there 3 more seconds or just keep walking the same path she was on and i had her, BUT just as i make my move to draw she decides to turn straight away from me and walk into the thick brust ans there she dissapears. oh man i shook for a hour. i was so excited only the second deer i have ever had a chance while bow hunting so i was pretty happy to see another one. at the end of the night i met up with my buddy and i tell him that i alsmost got one before i was even in the stand 10 minutes he tells me “oh you seen her too?” i guess she ran across the trail right in front of him and headed right for me.

I love that feeling you get when you first realize your not alone. I wish my wife could give me that feeling

    Fish,

Cool story. Can I offer some constructive criticism?? I’m gonna anyway, it’s in my nature, sorry. I’ve made a couple of the same mistakes you have.

    1. Be prepared the second you walk into the woods, camo on, release on, ready to shoot. I often had an arrow knocked and still hunted into my stands, depending how early I was that day.

    2. Be at the ready position as soon as you get in the stand, especially when you know other hunters are moving in the area. They may just kick up something it could head your way.

Hope you take this as help, not as negative feedback. That feeling of a drawing back, your heart jumping out of your chest is an awesome one, isn’t it!!

Good luck the rest of the year!!!

Way to go Fish, its always a rush with a deer standing right in front of you within bow range, bucks or does.
