How far away from a corn field should I build a tree stand. I’ve seen a lot of nice deer on drives by this field but this is the first time there has been corn on it.
    Thanks!!!

Are you bow hunting or gun hunting also if this is the first time there has been corn in this field it may change things as far as what time of year deer will show up.

The question you need to ask yourself is how far can you shoot comfortably and constantly hit your target, the only way you will know that is to practice as much as you can at the gun range. Once you get proficient with your target shooting you will know how far away from the corn field you can set up you stand.

Set up near the edge but also make sure you are high/far enough in the edge of the woods to where your silloete does not stick out either. So my answer is close as you can but not to close! I have made the mistake of setting up on the outside tree line a couple times to where you get pin pointed with any move you make.

Set up a couple stands on opposite ends. Since you are gun hunting you don’t have to be right on the field. Gun season is short and if you get the wrong wind you have a couple options for stands.

One other thing to add to that is find the trail that they are using to go in and out of it. I would also have a stand a little way back on that trail. Some times the bigger bucks will hang up there before for coming out to the field.

Couldn’t agree more. Way more often than not the bigger deer will hang up on the edge. They seem to know exactly when it is a half hour after sunset. Once it is no longer legal to shoot, the big boys will walk out into the field. I would set up 10-15 yards back in the woods above a trail leading to the field. If you can find a tree with a couple of shooting lanes out into the field you have the perfect spot.

I agree with Scott…. since you are gun hunting you do not need to be setup right on the field but I would setup just on the outside of it. I would also set a few different stands up so depending on wind direction you can pick a different stand to sit in where the wind will be in your favor.
