I just checked my Status for my South Dakota West River Deer tag. I’m in for a buck and a doe or 2 does.

Guess where I will be spending Thanksgiving.

Now I just need to decide if I’m shooting a Muley or WhiteTail.

CONGRATS! ! ! Got any idea where you’ll hunt? ‘Way back when Moby Dick was a minnow, we used to hunt the (used to be) trophy area in The Slim Buttes area. Came in late one nite to meet the rest of the crew, saw the most HUGE nontypical buck I’ve EVER seen. Still have dreams about him- – – jerr

    Congrats Rob
If I recall corectly I do not remember seeing any Muley mounts on your wall along with those awesome white tails you have. Maybe time for a big Muley to go on the wall or what the heck one of each.

Lip, your confidence is infectious! Good Luck on your hunt! Is it a tough tag to draw for non-res.?

Steve, The 4th Largest Muley in the State was taken off of the adjacent land, so I know it is possible for a Wall Hanger. I have yet to see a Mosnter White tail, but have seen 1 or 2 Shooter Muleys in my short hunts/scouting missions over there.

I’m pumped. I might be hitting 4-5 States this year.

I’m over around the Hot Springs area. The Wild Fire this Summer burned up part of the Hunting Land.

It looks like I had about a 1 in 3(33%) chance this year for this section.

Thats great Lip Ripper .I bet your pumped up.I am already having a hard time sleeping at night thinking about whitetails .It would be cool to have a chance a monster muley, let alone just getting the chance to hunt them would be a great experiance.Im only hunting Iowa & Wisconsin that should keep me busy this fall. 4-5 states will for sure keep you busy,Good luck Lip Ripper I will be waiting on some great post this fall.

The Strato Bowl area around Rockerville is another great spot to look for a wallhanger. Got one there myself a few years back. . .jerr

    Thanks GUYS

Is anyone else having trouble sleeping at night????

    Erick, it all depends.

That tag I got drawn for were Rifle Tags. One Buck and One Doe. I will be carrying my Left Handed Winchester Model 70 Bolt Action in 7mm Mag. during this Thanksgiving Hunt. However, it depends I might also be picking up a Archery Tag for out there for then and during Christmas and New Years week I wll be back out there. I just need to confirm a few dates for the Fall. Otherwise I’m booked Hunting and Fishing from Opening Day Archery to Jan 6th.

October 15th – Thanksgiving weekend, I will be very busy and I have a stretch in November that I will be Hunting 19 out of 24 days in 3 states, with Archery and Rifle in two of those states, possibly all 3.

Congrats pal!! Maybe we can get together for a night of trolling on the pond in late Oct to share hunting stories. I should have the moose in the freezer by then and you should have at least one deer down by then.
