i would go digital if you can afford it. the convenience of not having to take a roll of film in to get it developed.digital you can save what you want and delete the rest.i have heard nothing but good about the cuddieback , I do not have one yet , but from my researching it is what i will be using later this summer. things you want to look for is the amont of time before it will take another picture ,date and time , some will only show one or the other , not both at the same time . and some of the cheaper cameras use alot of batterys , like 8 or somthing and the batts dont last long .hope this helps you.

You’ve heard about the ones we have in the city here or maybe the ones in the local timbers. My area like most of eastern and southern Iowa have quite a few nice ones. Jerry a friend of mine told me about a buck shot here in the city limits last year by a bowhunter that was in the newspaper. I missed the article but he said that it was like the 15 largest non typical ever shot in Iowa anywhere, thats alot of anywhere. Im not bragging about the deer here but i grew up with 12 pointers a few blocks from my house, right in town. A guy really never knows what hes going to see in any of the timbers around here, all it takes is the right mix of genitics and food. I know two years ago there was a real nice 180″ buck shot by a bowhunter right outside of a small town just a few miles north of here, 18 miles i think, i know the area because I smallmouth fish there, that was a typical. Theres alot of nice deer on the walls of the sporting goods stores around here in the big and small towns. Its a common thing when going into any sporting goods store to look for mounts on the walls in that store, especially small town gas stations. I’ve heard alot about the cuddeback and i know its a good one. You gotta have alot of nice bucks too on the river bottoms in your neck of the woods don’t you? I’ve hunted the skunk right at the mouth of the mississippi so i know thier down your way too. Alot of nice soft maple and ash timbers down there. Thanks

I have a Cuddeback and love it. Haven’t used anything else. This is what the guy at Cabelas recommended, and what I read the most positive feedback about in magazine articles. If I get another, it will be another Cudde. I have the NoFlash, it works great in total darkness I went through 2 sets of batterys last year. Which from what I hear, was good.

My advice would be to get a Cuddeback. I have 3 of them and wouldn’t get anything else. They are very reliable and have improved their customer service a ton. I have several models but the Excite is affordable and does everything a person needs.

If your going to spend the money then do it right…buy yourself a Cuddeback digital I don’t claim to be an expert when it comes to trail cams but I can tell you from personal experience Cuddeback is the only way to go. I have littery taken thousands of pictures over the last 7 years and Cuddeback rises above all competitors They offer a variety of different models but the “Excite” will do everything you need for a first time trail cam buyer. Don’t bother with the film models as you will only spend way too much money developing pictures in the future Digital is the only way to go these days!!

    Dan,

Do all the checking you want but in the end Cuddeback is the only way to go

Scott knows his stuff and I’m sure he will agree with me that through trial and error Cuddeback shines above all the others out there today!!

Reconyx silent image! I also have a No-flash but I think that the Reconyx has some better features….
With the C-cell battery pack you will get 30,000-40,000 pictures on one set of batteries IT IS AMAZING!!
and 5-7 pictures per second, ALSO AMAZING, and 1/10 second trigger speed ….
It was $850 , but worth every penny!
If you are interested in a Cuddeback I will be selling mine in order to save cash for another Reconyx

don’t know if you bought a camera yet …but i have had a cuddeback for several years. love it and would not use anything else. however i purchased a new cuddeback no flash and i returned two of them because the nightshot is terrible. i will be picking up another cuddeback with a flash though…good luck

I’m going against the grain here. I don’t really like Cuddeback cameras unless it is the C-3000. That was a great camera but their current cameras has problems that many but not all are experiencing. Plus it has the narrow sensor on it which I’m not really a big fan of. I have picked up two Moultrie I40 game cameras and will be picking up a third. These are great cameras for the money. They are IR, they have a quick trigger speed of 1.5-2 seconds which is more than enough to catch deer, it has a excellent flash range and excellent battery life. All of this for around $200 with a little shopping.
