Was just watching a show that had a bunch of guys hunting deer with dogs and radios. Looked like they would drive a strip of woods with the dogs and then get on the radio to talk to the others about which way the deer went. Interesting to say the least. Not sure of what state this was in but is was down south somewhere. Sounded like the limits where pretty liberal also.

They do this in Ontario as well!

If you have a coon dog that chases deer! Its worth good money up there!

They would hang a fellow from a tall tree with a short rope if you were doing that here.

Thought I heard one of the states now allows a spear hunting season for deer also. Guess there more than one way to kill them deer.

    Pennsylvania spear hunting

We hunted with dogs in North Carolina. There would be 30 – 40 people and at the end of the day, we would cut up all the deer harvested with a back ham going to anyone with dogs. The rest of the meat was put in plastic bags and put in this huge shelving unit to be drawn out of a hat for. Every hunter went home with meat every hunt. This is how I learned to deer hunt. A lot different now.

I’m pretty sure that in MN, the law states that during season anyone has the right to shoot a dog that is chasing “Big Game”. Outside of season a DNR officer must be called to do it.

Not a good thing to teach your dog, unless you don’t want to see your dog again.

Had a teammate from Virginia when playing ball down in Florida that described doing exactly that type of hunting using buckshot. You don’t see too many videos of that style of hunting for a reason.

We also used buckshot only. I think the reason you don’t see videos on it is because it is more to harvest and thin does. Does don’t sell products nor do they make people cross state lines to pay large tag prices, but they sure taste good.

Between Jan 1 and July 14 any person may shoot a dog chasing big game. Anytime of year a CO can shoot a dog chasing deer Page 29 of regs

There looking out for your hunting dogs during the pheasant season.

Lip, I believe the law states that during season you cannot shoot a dog chasing game but out of season you can. I believe it’s because it coincides with small game hunting, grouse, pheasant etc. and too many of mans best friends would be killed if they took off after a deer while hunting out in the field. I’ve been tempted 2 times in my life though!!!

We used buckshot in Texas. It was nice and easy to be honest. All deer were harvested with headshots. Made perfect hides and no damage to any meat.

Hunting in the south is much different than “up north”. There are still many people who expect to put 4-8 or even 16 deer in the freezer. It is a way of life……Harvesting. The “hunting” portion is a bonus if you get a big-buck. But most mentality down there is meat hunting.

When I was in Texas, I could purchase a “hunting license”. This was for $16. It gave me 2 bucks, 2 does, 1 muley, 3 turkeys, and it was my small game license! Yep, for $16!!!!!!! Just had to purchase federal waterfowl stamps……no state stamps!!!! This was 15 years ago.

They use dogs too for hog hunting.

Hey, we spear fish, they use dogs for deer. Is there really a difference?
