“Honey,go git the gun….dinner just showed up in the driveway.”

Dinner Time in Eagle River, Wisconsin

These people living in Northern Wisconsin

put some corn out in the dead of winter

    to sustain the area deer.

When I said the deer up here were

as thick as cats and dogs, I wasn’t far off.

    Wisconsin community of Eagle River.

And they say feeding the deer causes them to congregate and can transmit diseases.

I’ll try to get some pics from my dad’s neighbor this winter. Look like this times 10. He winters over 200 head of deer each year. Sad thing, the GF&P helps him feed them, but won’t force him to let anyone hunt. Sore subject for the locals. Anyway, I’ll try to get some pics.

No, this is central SD. If they don’t get some harsh weather, it won’t happen. But like last year when the major storm hit in early Dec, by Xmas every deer within 5 miles had congregated to this place. It’s quite amazing to see. Of course, there are several nice bucks that usually show up to torment you.

I’m hoping my back yard looks like that this winter. That reminds me I need to stop at the elevator and get some more corn.

When I was in College a long time ago up in Ely, a guy named Walton used to feed deer by the hundereds….actually this is the place where the “Minnesota Monarch” lived. (Have many pics of him alive on the hoof!) Anyhow, one day I was sitting along the road taking pictures of some nice bucks when an airforce jet flew over making a sonic boom! In the few seconds following that boom every deer on the North side of the road ran to the South and vice versa….it was amazing, a site I will never forget! Probably about 500 deer crossing the road at once!

The place in Ely is truly amazing! Unless you have seen them there you would have never guessed there were that many in the area. In that area of the state they need to feed them in the winter otherwise mothernature gets the best of them. Well maybe not the winters we have had lately.
