Power belt penetration????

To start off, Last year was my first year of muzzle loading. I shoot a CVA optima 50 cal. 245gr. powerbelt hollowpoints(without plasic ballistic tip) 2-50gr. tripleseven pellets for a total of 100gr. of powder. It shoots great to 100 yrds with open sites. I figured it would be tough to shoot over a 100 yrds so 100 gr. of powder would suffice. On my first eve sit I shot a decent nine point at about seven yards. My shot was almost straight down. I shot along side the spine, on top of the rib cage right into the vitals. The deer went 50 yrds. and tipped over. I looked down where I shot him and not a drop of blood in the white snow? The bullet did not even pass through. The next week while visiting with my taxidermists he showed me 2 powerbelts he got out of a deer. They were flat as 2 nickels stacked on top of another. It made me think, had I not see my deer go down and there was no snow I’d have a tough time finding it. Has anyone had any trouble with not getting an exit using these? Should I add more powder a 30gr or 50gr pellet? Would I need to change my sights if I add more? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Cop, I shoot .50 calibre 245 grain Aerotip Powerbelts. They advertise that the Aerotips do achieve better penetration and I have never yet had a Powerbelt not completely pass through. I am shooting 130 grains of Triple 7. My longest shot so far has been about 135 yards, the deer went about 30 yards and fell over dead. I am confident that I can shoot 200 yards with my set-up as long as I have a rest of can use my shooting sticks. At the shooting range I have achieved some really impressive groups at 200 yards using a rest. The 135 yard shot was off hand. I am using a 3-9X40mm scope. I have noticed that the exit wounds are about twice the size of the entrance wounds. I had considered switching to the hollow points, thinking they would provide a bigger exit wound, but thanks to your information I am not changing a thing at least not right now. A buddy of mine shoots the 295 grain hollow points and he has never reported any problems. Maybe try the Aerotips. They do shoot pretty flat also. I have also considered changing to the 223 grain Aerotips, thinking I would get even flatter trajectory.

This years was my frist time using the TC Omega. I uses the 295 Powerbelt aerotip. I had 100 grains of powder. The deer did not move a step. The powerbelt did not pass through. It was in the other shoulder.

I also use 295gr Aerotips with 150 grains of powder. I love powerbelts because they load soo much easier than most of the other shots I tried. Shooting with a T/C Omega.

If the bullet is not passing through, isn’t that kind of good. That should mean that it is wreaking havoc inside the vital area, as long as it is making it that far.

I agree that the mushrooming effect is good for doing damage. My .308 bullets do the same but usually tend to exit as well. I figure an in and out creates a better blood trail though. Have any of you had these bullets exit?
